  • Improving The Quality of Financial Statements and The Survival of MSMES Through Digital Economy: The Case of Indonesia and Malaysia

Authors: Adeh Ratna Komala, Dony Waluya Firdaus

    Abstract

This research aims to assess the extent to which the digital economy influences the quality of financial statements and the survival of MSMEs in Indonesia and Malaysia. This research used an analysis unit of 201 MSMEs registered in the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a literature review on the digital economy of MSMEs in Malaysia. The analytical approach was then utilized to examine validity, reliability, classical assumptions, analysis path, and hypothesis testing using the t-test in SPSS version 23.0. The results of hypothesis testing in this research show that the digital economy affects the quality of financial statements and has a unidirectional relationship with strong categories. These findings suggest that the digitalization of the economy is critical for MSMEs because it lowers operational costs and exposes them to a broader range of potential customers. MSMEs must be technologically literate for their businesses to grow and survive in response to market demands. The issue in Indonesian MSMEs is that they need direct access to financial services, resulting in lower operational profitability and difficulty obtaining profits. Technology literacy becomes a solution for ensuring business continuity. Like Indonesia, Malaysia is also concerned about MSMEs’ business sustainability, which inspired them to achieve the goal of making Malaysia the center of economic digitalization. This goal would involve technological advances, indicating that MSMEs in Indonesia and Malaysia can improve their financial gain through digital transformation. © 2023, Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. DOI: 10.15549/jeecar.v9i5.1063

    Abstract

This study aims to ascertain how the capital structure affects firm value via profitability moderated by hedging practices and firm size. Verification analysis is used in this study, with data analysis techniques through conditional process analysis. Companies from miscellaneous industrial sectors that were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2016 and 2020 make up the research population. The study showed that: capital structure affects profitability; capital structure and profitability affect firm value; profitability does not mediate the effect of capital structure on firm value, which is moderated by hedging policies and firm size; hedging policies and firm size do not moderate the indirect effect of profitability on firm value. This conclusion is crucial for decision-makers who aim to optimize the structure to raise the business value. © 2022, Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. All rights reserved.

Authors: Muhammad Fahreza Aulia, Dini Turipanam Alamanda, Ubaidillah Zuhdi, Grisna Anggadwita, Dinar Mariam Kurniati, Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto

    DOI: 10.14453/aabfj.v18i4.13

    Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the startup ecosystem on startup business performance in Capital Cities (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi), emphasizing the roles of iterative incremental strategies and lean startup programs. This study also examines the similarities between Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the Indonesia region. Central Asian countries face unique challenges, including less mature ecosystems, regulatory hurdles, and cultural attitudes toward entrepreneurship. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from startups aged 1-10 years, the research reveals that these strategies significantly mediate the relationship between ecosystem support and startup success, enhancing market optimization, innovation, and sustainability. Startups achieve better financial and nonfinancial outcomes by effectively leveraging ecosystem structures through agile methodologies. By drawing on capital city experiences, Central Asian policymakers can improve startup environments through robust support structures, regulatory clarity, and education on agile methodologies. This research offers a model for enhancing startup business performance via ecosystem support and strategic agility, informing policy and program development in other regions. © 2024, University of Wollongong. Authors: Rino Adibowo ; Rahadi Rahadi ; Ran Liu

    DOI: 10.15549/jeecar.v10i1.1078

    Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see how optimizing the use of community-based smartphone apps to accommodate the community’s aspirations in economic activities in Karawang. The Department of Communications and Informatics of Karawang manages the process. The theory used in this study uses the theory of George C. Edwards III, in which there are four policy implementation variables. The results showed that the socialization carried out by the Communication and Informatics Office of Karawang to the community had been carried out according to the procedure but was not maximized evenly. This was because the resources had not been maximized in responding to incoming reports, and the complete support facilities were not yet available to manage smartphone apps. So, it can be concluded that the Department of Communication and Information Karawang needs a solution to solve this problem. © 2023, Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Author: Febriansyah A. ; Syafei M.Y. ; Narimawati U. ; Chochole T. ; Stakic A.J.

    DOI: 10.14453/aabfj.v18i5.04

    Abstract:

This research explores the significance of financial inclusion for the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Employing a mixed-method approach comprising qualitative and quantitative analyses, including descriptive and structural equation modeling analyses, the study gathers primary data through distributed questionnaires to MSMEs. The validity of the data is assessed through validity, reliability, and goodness-of-fit tests. Findings from previous research indicate a significant positive impact of financial inclusion on the performance of MSMEs, suggesting a strong relationship between financial inclusion and MSME performance. This correlation implies that increased financial inclusion enhances MSME performance, underscoring the crucial role of financial inclusion in fostering the growth and success of micro and small enterprises. The research informs government efforts to boost financial inclusion, enhancing MSME performance. Improved access to financial institutions in Indonesia for MSMEs is expected to lead to enhanced sales growth, customer expansion, and increased profitability, ultimately benefiting the broader economy. © 2024, University of Wollongong. DOI: 10.15549/jeecar.v10i1.1050

    Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of profitability and corporate financial distress on auditor turnover in Indonesia. This study uses descriptive and verification methods with a quantitative approach. The population used in this study are 56 annual financial statements of Manufacturing Companies in the Pharmaceutical Sub-Sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The results showed that profitability had a significant effect on auditor turnover. This indicates that the profitability of a developed company has substantial funds to replace a better auditor. While the company’s financial distress has no significant effect on auditor turnover, the change of auditors will ensure the company’s financial condition so that auditor changes will not be carried out when the company is in financial distress. The impact of this research is that manufacturing companies can consider this when deciding to change auditors. © 2023, Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. All rights reserved.

    Abstract:

This study examines the adoption of Integrated Micro Banking System technology using the Theory Acceptance Model in PT Lembaga Keuangan Mikro (MFI). Employing quantitative research methods with descriptive and associative approaches, the study focused on users of the Integrated Micro Banking System at PT LKM Garut Regency. A total of 83 individuals were sampled using a census sampling technique. Data was analysed using the Structural Equation Method – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The findings showed that all six hypotheses developed supported the researchers’ initial guesses. Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Trust, and Attitude, directly or indirectly, can explain and predict users’ adoption of Integrated Micro Banking System technology. Therefore, these results serve as a valuable reference, especially for the management team of Microfinance Institutions in adopting technology and formulating relevant policies. © 2024, University of Wollongong.
