    DOI: 10.29333/ejecs/2154

    Abstract

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) serve as vital pillars of societal progress, fostering transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance while advocating for human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability. This study investigates the role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in promoting social and political change in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative research design, data were collected through document analysis and in-depth interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, identifying patterns and themes related to CSO strategies, interactions with the state, impact on policy, and challenges CSOs in Indonesia employ diverse advocacy strategies, including lobbying, public campaigns, grassroots mobilization, and coalition-building, to advance social and political change. They engage with policymakers and government agencies to influence legislation and shape policies. Despite facing challenges, CSOs are crucial in promoting government accountability, transparency, and civic engagement. Recognizing the vital role of CSOs in promoting democratic governance and social justice can foster greater collaboration between civil society, government, and the international community. This study contributes to political science, social sciences, and development studies by offering a comprehensive examination of the role of CSOs in Indonesia. It fills a significant gap in the academic literature by systematically analyzing CSOs’ strategies, interactions, impacts, and challenges, providing valuable insights for future research and policy development. Additionally, it underscores the importance of civil society in promoting democratic governance and social change in emerging democracies. © 2024, Florida Gulf Coast University. All rights reserved.

    DOI: 10.1109/ICoICT.2014.6914038

    Abstract

Human needs of information increase periodically. These improvements lead to knowledge discovery which can be used to prediction. One of the organization that needs prediction to support their business processes is college or university. Universities need to predict their student achievement as support of their business objective. In fact, the software owned by universities have not been able to help their stakeholder in prediction, especially in predicting student achievement that based on the accuracy of graduation time. In addition, university’s data are very huge and increase periodically which raised the need to implement specific techniques in developing software. This techniques called data mining classification. The software that will be built requires a software development process that is quite different from the other types of software development, especially in terms of requirement elicitation. This causes the existing requirement elicitation models need to be customized to the characteristics of business process in universities and implementation of data mining technique. To solve these problems, in this research was developed requirement elicitation model that specific to the needs of prediction in universities. Requirement elicitation model is then used to form a general solution model of prediction using data mining classification techniques in universities. Models that have been developed become the basis for the software development that can be used to predict student achievement in universities. Based on this research was obtained new requirement elicitation model that have been customized to characteristic owned by universities and the need to implement data mining classification technique. After develop new model, a software was developed for the prediction of student achievement as the implementation of the model. © 2014 IEEE.

Vocational Skills Training as a Requirement for Survival in Disaster Affected Communities: an Educational, Managerial and Technological Perspective

Author: Eddy Soeryanto Seogoto ; Umi Narimawati ; Wahyu

    Abstract

For many years, throughout the world, people have had, and continue to have, pressing, endless and urgent needs to build conducive and human friendly communities. However, in a disaster situation, many lose lives, property, infrastructure, close friends and family members, something which causes multiple pain and suffering. Such a condition calls for a tested strategy and or approach, which can heal all the post-disaster wounds and pains brought about by deadly calamities (such as tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes). In this case, among the most appropriate strategies is vocational skills training. Based on this, in the present study the authors seek to examine the effectiveness of this strategy from an educational, managerial and technological perspective with the aim of establishing how the strategy should work to build sustainable communities in a post-disaster situation. It is concluded that communities need to possess appropriate knowledge, attitude, and skills necessarily for their survival after minor and severe disasters. This can take place in the form of vocational training and skills development. © 2017 WIETE.
