BANDUNG, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing research, innovation, and youth excellence by collaborating with the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) to organize a series of prestigious national and international scientific competitions. As part of its annual agenda, the collaboration featured three renowned events: the National Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (NICYMS) 2026, the International Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (IICYMS) 2026, and the World Robotics & Computer Science Olympiad (WRCSO) 2026. The competitions were held from July 7–10, 2026, at UNIKOM’s Smart Building Campus in Bandung.

The competitions provided a platform for elementary, junior high, and senior high school students, as well as university students from across Indonesia and abroad, to present their research, innovations, and creative projects designed to address various global challenges. Through the longstanding partnership between UNIKOM and IYSA, the events served not only as competitive platforms but also as opportunities to strengthen academic networks, cultivate a culture of research, and encourage the emergence of internationally competitive young innovators.

In his opening remarks, President of IYSA, Deni Irawan, M.Pd., expressed his appreciation and warmly welcomed all participants, supervising teachers, judges, collaborative partners, and delegations from various regions and countries participating in NICYMS, IICYMS, and WRCSO 2026. He explained that the three competitions were designed to provide young people with a platform to showcase their talents in science, technology, and innovation while fostering creativity and developing innovative solutions to global challenges. According to him, by conducting the competitions in an offline format, participants not only gained valuable experience presenting their research directly before an international panel of judges but also enhanced their communication skills, broadened their research perspectives, strengthened their self-confidence, and expanded their international networks with fellow young innovators.

Deni Irawan also conveyed his appreciation to UNIKOM for its continuous commitment and collaboration over the past several years in supporting international research and innovation competitions. He noted that this partnership reflects a shared commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for young generations to develop their potential, explore scientific knowledge, and create innovations that deliver positive impacts and tangible benefits to society.

Meanwhile, in an interview session, Dean of the Faculty of Design at UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Lia Warlina, M.Si., Ir., stated that the collaboration between UNIKOM and the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) has now entered its third consecutive year. According to her, the partnership represents UNIKOM’s commitment to nurturing young talents through scientific competitions at both national and international levels.

“Through the organization of NICYMS, IICYMS, and WRCSO 2026, we aim to provide students with opportunities to showcase their research, innovations, and creativity in science, technology, and various other disciplines. This year, participants came not only from different regions across Indonesia but also from overseas, taking part in both onsite and online competitions,” she concluded.

The second and third days of the event featured an exhibition showcasing hundreds of innovative projects and research works from educational institutions ranging from elementary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, to universities from Indonesia and various other countries. The exhibition served as both a platform for recognizing participants’ achievements and an opportunity to introduce their research, exchange ideas, and expand collaborative networks in science and innovation.

Among the participants of the International Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (IICYMS) 2026, Azkania Nadhra and Maesa Dinara from SMAS IT Al Binaa introduced an innovation entitled Smart Sticker Mango, an intelligent sticker designed to detect the ripeness level of mangoes. According to the students, the innovation was inspired by the common difficulty faced by farmers, traders, and consumers in distinguishing ripe mangoes from unripe ones, which often results in food waste due to improper storage and distribution.

Through Smart Sticker Mango, they hope farmers, distributors, retailers, and consumers will be able to determine fruit ripeness more accurately, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and food waste. The innovation was also developed in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to reducing food waste and promoting innovations that create positive impacts on society. Looking ahead, they hope the technology can be expanded beyond mangoes to various other fruits and vegetables, providing broader benefits for agriculture, trade, and food security.

On the third day, participants also attended a series of workshops held across the UNIKOM campus. The workshops were organized as part of UNIKOM’s Community Service Program, particularly for participants interested in paper craft through the “Paper Sculpture Amazing Pop Up” workshop and photography through the “Smartphone Modeling Photography” workshop. These international workshops resulted from collaboration among IYSA, the Faculty of Design at UNIKOM, the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Graphic Design Study Program, Interior Design Study Program, and the Master’s Program in Design at UNIKOM. Through these activities, participants gained hands-on learning experiences from academics and industry practitioners while enriching their knowledge and practical skills relevant to the rapidly evolving creative industries and global innovation landscape.

The event concluded with a Closing Ceremony followed by an Awarding Ceremony, jointly organized by UNIKOM and IYSA to recognize participants who achieved outstanding accomplishments. In the National Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (NICYMS) 2026, the Gold Medal in the Pure Science category at the secondary school level was awarded to Sekolah Menengah Pertama 3 Kudus. In the Applied Life Science category, Gold Medals were awarded to Sekolah Menengah Atas Taruna Nusantara, Madrasah Aliyah Unggulan Amanatul Ummah, and Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Garut, while Silver Medals were presented to Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Makassar and Sekolah Menengah Atas Ibnu Hajar Boarding School. In the Social Science category, Gold Medals were earned by Sekolah Menengah Atas Taruna Nusantara Magelang and Sekolah Menengah Atas Ibnu Hajar Boarding School. At the International Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (IICYMS) 2026, the Gold Medal in the Applied Life Science (University) category was awarded to Sriwijaya University. In the school-level competition, Gold Medals were also earned by Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Jakarta, SMAS IT Al Binaa, SMAS IT Al Binaa Islamic Boarding School, SMP Labschool Jakarta, and SMP Negeri 41 Jakarta.

Meanwhile, in the World Robotics & Computer Science Olympiad (WRCSO) 2026, the Gold Medal in the Physics and Engineering category was awarded to Nikola Academy and SMAS IT Al Binaa, while the Silver Medal went to Ibnu Hajar Boarding School. In the Environment category, SMAS IT Al Binaa received the Gold Medal, while Sekolah Bogor Raya earned the Silver Medal. In addition, SMA Regina Pacis Bogor and Insan Cendekia Magnet School won the Gold Medal in the Robotics category, Fitrah Islamic World Academy (FIWA) secured the Gold Medal in the Design and Animation category, and SMAN 2 Surabaya claimed the Gold Medal in the Computer category.

Through the annual IYSA competitions, UNIKOM continues to strengthen its role as a university actively promoting impactful research, innovation, and international collaboration. The ongoing partnership between UNIKOM and IYSA is expected to nurture more creative and innovative young talents capable of making meaningful contributions to the advancement of science and sustainable development at both the national and global levels.
