    DKV Study Program Supports the Role of Visual Design as an Environmental Education Medium in the Screeningof the Film “Maira: Whisper from Papua”

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — The Visual Communication Design (DKV) Program at Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) reaffirms its commitment to supporting environmental conservation issues through visual approaches and creative narratives by contributing to the watch party and film screening of “Teman Tegar: Maira – Whisper from Papua.” The event was organized by Aksa Bumi Langit Production House on Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2026, at XXI Cihampelas Walk (Ciwalk), Bandung.

    The involvement of the DKV Study Program in this event is part of the implementation of the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education), specifically community service, by utilizing film as a strategic communication medium to voice concern for the preservation of Papua’s forests. The film “Maira – Whisper from Papua” is considered to represent the power of visual design, cinematography, and storytelling in building public awareness of global environmental issues.

    Present at the event was the Head of the DKV UNIKOM Study Program, Dr. Kankan Kasmana, S.Sn., M.Ds., accompanied by lecturer and Head of the Public Relations and Information Communication Division of UNIKOM, Arif Try Cahyadi, M.Ds. The presence of representatives from the DKV Study Program was to support a creative ecosystem that actively contributes to social and environmental issues. In addition, the event was also attended by various stakeholders, including local government representatives, the Head of the West Java Provincial Culture and Tourism Office, private stakeholders, and communities in Bandung. The presence of cross-sectors strengthens the view of UNIKOM’s DKV Study Program that environmental preservation is a collaborative issue that requires a strategic role for visual communication design as a bridge for public communication.

    Dr. Kankan Kasmana S.Sn., M.Ds., said that the film “Maira” could be used as a relevant academic case study for DKV students, particularly in understanding how visual aesthetics, design narratives, and cinematographic approaches can influence public opinion and build a sense of shared concern. He emphasized that the forests of Papua are the lungs of the world as well as Indonesia’s wealth, rich in local wisdom, so that the message conveyed in the film is very contextual to the current condition of the nation and contains interdisciplinary educational values.

    Meanwhile, Arif Try Cahyadi, M.Ds., asserted that the film “Maira – Whisper from Papua” is an example of effective public education media. According to him, the power of visual storytelling is able to transcend the limitations of information delivery and convey environmental messages in an emotional and persuasive manner, thereby potentially encouraging changes in people’s attitudes and behavior.

    The public’s enthusiasm for the screening was also reflected in the number of viewers, which reached 1,438 people, filling the XXI Ciwalk studio for the special premiere in Bandung. For the DKV Study Program, this high level of public participation shows that environmental issues can be communicated effectively through visual media that is strong and relevant to the audience.

    The screening event at Cihampelas Walk was part of events leading up to the official launch of the film “Maira – Whisper from Papua” on February 5, 2026. The DKV Study Program hopes that the film will not only be enjoyed as entertainment but also used as material for academic discussion, learning references, and a catalyst for design-based social movements on campus and in the wider community.

    Through active participation in the screening event, the DKV Study Program of UNIKOM continues to promote the role of visual communication design as a tool for education, advocacy, and social transformation, particularly in efforts to preserve environmental sustainability and the future of Indonesia’s forests.     Management Study Program of FEB UNIKOM Holds a Google Workspace-Based AI Workshop: Encouraging Adaptive and Competitive Graduates

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – The Management Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) remains committed to providing learning relevant to technological developments. This commitment was realized through the Google Workspace Workshop themed “AI For Students: Skills You Need to Thrive in the AI Era” which was held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Miracle Auditorium on the 4th floor of UNIKOM Campus I.

    Attended by 7th semester Management Study Program students, the workshop aimed to equip students with strategic skills in facing the era of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in the context of academia and the professional world.

    The Head of the Management Study Program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raeni Dwi Santy, S.E., M.SI, CIMA., outlined the latest vision and mission of the Management Study Program, where the AI and Google Workspace workshop is a concrete implementation of the program’s vision and mission focused on strengthening economic and business competencies based on artificial intelligence and digital technology. “Google Workspace Day was held to optimize the utilization of UNIKOM’s collaboration with Google in supporting academic activities and the development of students’ digital competencies. With an emphasis on economic and business development based on artificial intelligence and digital technology,” she said. Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raeny emphasized that mastery of AI and digital literacy are important competencies that students must have in order to be able to utilize technology in data analysis, scientific writing, and decision making, so that graduates are ready to compete and adapt to the demands of the world of work in the digital era.

    The workshop directly supports the study program’s vision to become a center for the development of economic and business knowledge and practices that are adaptive to digital transformation and have a global perspective. The use of AI in academic activities reflects the institution’s commitment to responding to the dynamics of the professional world and industry, which increasingly demands mastery of smart technology.

    Meanwhile, the Dean of FEB UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Siti Kurnia Rahayu, S.E. M.Ak., Ak, CA., in her opening remarks, fully supported the faculty and study program in strengthening technological and AI literacy in the academic environment. Prof. Siti Kurnia also stated that AI is expected to be used ethically to help students complete assignments, work on large projects, and improve learning effectiveness, particularly in the context of academic activities such as community service programs and digital competency development. “Through the Google Workspace workshop, FEB UNIKOM encourages the strengthening of the digital workforce among the academic community as part of the implementation of the institution’s vision, and appreciates the initiative of the Management Study Program, which is expected to be replicated by other study programs,” she concluded. 

    The activity then continued with a presentation session from the main speaker, Ahmad Fikri Zulfikar. In his presentation, he raised the topic “Gemini in Higher Education: AI Era Skill,” which discussed the use of AI technology, particularly Gemini in the Google Workspace ecosystem, as a tool to support learning, collaboration, and increase student productivity in higher education.

    On this occasion, participants were invited to understand how AI can be used ethically and effectively to support academic writing, data analysis, time management, as well as idea development and decision making. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident, especially during the discussion and Q&A session, which opened up a dialogue on the opportunities and challenges of using AI in education.

    Through this workshop, the Management Study Program provided students with a conceptual understanding of AI technology, and it is expected that students will be able to master practical skills relevant to industry needs. This activity is also part of UNIKOM’s efforts to produce graduates who are adaptive, innovative, and ready to compete in the era of artificial intelligence-based digital transformation.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) continues to strengthen academic transformation by holding a Socialization of the Non-Thesis Graduation Scheme on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Held in the Multi-Purpose Room on the 15th floor of the Smart Building UNIKOM, this event was a strategic step by the university to align its graduation system with the dynamics of scientific development and the needs of the workforce. 

    Present at the event were Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si. (Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman Soegoto, MBA (Vice Rector III for Research, Innovation, and Accreditation), the Deans, Heads of Study Programs, the Head of Curriculum Division, the Ad Hoc Committee for the Non-Thesis Graduation Scheme, and faculty members from UNIKOM. 

    Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., emphasized that the non-thesis graduation scheme is a form of academic innovation designed to provide an alternative for completing studies that still upholds the quality and learning achievements of graduates. “The non-thesis graduation scheme is a strategic step from the university in responding to the increasingly dynamic challenges of higher education. This policy provides flexibility for students to complete their studies through various forms of final assignments that are relevant to the competencies of their study programs, such as projects, prototypes, design works, scientific publications, or in-depth internship reports, without reducing academic quality standards,” said Prof. Umi. She also stated that thesis are no longer the only option but rather one alternative for students interested in research, while students with practical and innovative strengths can demonstrate their learning achievements through applicable and impactful work, in line with industry needs and developments. 

    Entering the core session, the AdHoc Team for the Non-Thesis Graduation Scheme, led by Deputy Vice Rector IV, Adam Mukharil Bachtiar, S.Kom., M.T., Ph.D., comprehensively explained the concept, mechanism, and implementation of the scheme. The presentation was delivered systematically, covering the policy basis, student criteria, and the assessment model to be applied at UNIKOM. 

    The activity ended with an interactive discussion and Q&A session. Various questions from the participants showed a high level of interest in the graduation scheme as an alternative for completing studies in the future. Through this socialization activity, UNIKOM hopes that the entire academic community will gain a thorough understanding of the non-thesis graduation scheme so that its implementation can run optimally and be in line with the university’s vision as an innovative, adaptive, and globally competitive higher education institution.     BANDUNG, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) has officially launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) website as a manifestation of the institution’s commitment to supporting the global sustainable development agenda. The launch was an important moment in the Building Global Academic Presence: Workshop on Strengthening Global Academic Identity through Digital Platforms event held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Auditorium on the 17th floor of the Smart Building UNIKOM. 

    The vice rectors, deans, heads of study programs, and all lecturers at UNIKOM attended the event. The launch of the UNIKOM’s SDGs Website marks a strategic step for the institution in integrating sustainable development values into the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education), while strengthening UNIKOM’s position in the global higher education landscape. 

    Vice Rector IV for Digital Technology & ICT, International Programs & Center of Excellence, Prof. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, MLS, Ph.D., explained that the launch of the SDGs website reaffirms UNIKOM’s commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that have been ratified globally. He stated all fields of science have room to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, because these goals include various indicators and sub-indicators that are relevant to education, research, and community service activities.

    “On this occasion, UNIKOM will launch the SDGs website. This affirms our commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that have been ratified globally. All fields of study have a contribution to make, because the SDGs cover various indicators and sub-indicators relevant to education, research, and community service activities. I need to emphasize that AI is not meant to replace the role of humans but rather to support and improve the quality of our academic performance. Human judgment remains the main foundation in the education world. All these steps are part of accelerating the achievement of UNIKOM’s grand vision of becoming a world-class university. Of course, this journey requires commitment, consistency, constructive criticism, and teamwork,” he said. 

    The SDGs Website is designed as a center for information, documentation, and reporting on various activities of the academic community that contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. The platform is expected to increase transparency, expand national and international collaboration networks, and strengthen the visibility of UNIKOM’s contributions in addressing global issues. 

    The launch of the SDGs website is also in line with the agenda of strengthening UNIKOM’s global academic identity through the use of digital platforms. During the workshop series, participants gained an understanding of the importance of academic presence in the digital space as the main gateway to introducing institutions, strengthening reputations, and developing international cooperation.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) continues to affirm its commitment to becoming a World Class University (WCU) by holding the Building Global Academic Presence: Workshop on Strengthening Global Academic Identity through Digital Platforms on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Held at the 17th floor auditorium of the Smart Building UNIKOM, the event was attended by university leaders, faculty members, study program heads, and all lecturers.

    The workshop was a strategic step by UNIKOM to strengthen the identity and academic visibility of lecturers at the international level through the use of various academic digital platforms, such as LinkedIn, ResearchGate, SINTA, ORCID, and Publons. The optimization of these platforms is considered crucial in enhancing the institution’s reputation, scientific citations, global networks, and UNIKOM’s competitiveness in the higher education world.

    In his opening remarks, Vice Rector IV for Digital Technology & ICT, International Programs & Center of Excellence, Prof. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, MLS, Ph.D., explained the WCU Overview: “UNIKOM is currently in an important phase in realizing its vision as a world-class university. The WCU program is positioned as a key strategic agenda because it is a lever for all other institutional development programs. Through the Building Global Academic Presence initiative, UNIKOM is beginning to strengthen its academic presence at the global level by leveraging digital platforms as the primary gateway for institutional promotion, international networking, and sustained academic reputation enhancement,” he stated.

    The activity continued with a presentation on UNIKOM’s current position in the World Class University map and future development strategies delivered by the Director of International Programs, Dr. Senny Luckyardi, SP., M.M. The session provided an empirical overview of the institution’s achievements and challenges that need to be addressed through improving the performance of the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) and the global exposure of lecturers.

    Furthermore, the discussion on the role of the International Office in supporting WCU was also led by the Director of International Affairs & Cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Inta Budi Setya Nusa, S.E., M.Ak., who reviewed policies, regulations, and opportunities for international cooperation as the foundation for strengthening UNIKOM’s global reputation. The presentation continued with a core session on the creation and optimization of digital academic accounts, delivered by Deputy Vice Rector IV, Adam Mukharil Bachtiar, S.Kom., M.T., Ph.D., and PTDSI Director, Irfan Dwiguna Sumitra, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D. During this session, participants received practical and systematic guidance on building credible, integrated, and globally impactful academic profiles.

    The next topic was presented by the Director of Journals and Scientific Publications of UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Poni Sukaesih, M.Si., who provided an overview of strengthening academic visibility through the SINTA platform. She also emphasized the importance of accurate management of research data and publications as the basis for assessing the performance of lecturers and institutions. Meanwhile, a presentation on the perspective of international grant development and study centers as a bridge from local to global was delivered by the Director of Grants and Study Centers, Dr. M. Aria Rajasa Pohan, M.T., who highlighted the importance of cross-border research collaboration.

    Through this workshop, UNIKOM encourages all lecturers to optimize their academic presence in the global digital space sustainably.
