    Targeting National and International Grants, the Center for Digital Business Studies, Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM, Strengthens Lecturers’ Competencies Through a Research Grant Proposal Writing Workshop

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — To strengthen the capacity of lecturers in producing high-quality research and increase their opportunities to secure research funding, the Center for Digital Business Studies, under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), organized a National and International Research Grant Proposal Writing Workshop on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Held in VVIP Room 16, 16th Floor of the UNIKOM Smart Building, the event was specifically aimed at lecturers within the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM. It sought to equip participants with the strategies and skills necessary to draft competitive grant proposals for both national and international funding schemes. Furthermore, the workshop was designed to foster the formation of research groups capable of generating impactful proposals, publications, and research outputs.

    The event was attended by UNIKOM’s executive leadership, including the Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si.; the Vice Rector for Technology & ICT, International Programs & Center of Excellence, Prof. Zainal A. Hasibuan, MLS., Ph.D.; the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Siti Kurnia Rahayu, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., CA.; the Head of the Center for Digital Business Studies and Director of UNIKOM International Programs, Dr. Senny Lukyardi, S.P., M.M.; the Director of DP3M UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irawan Afrianto, S.T., M.T.; the Director of the UNIKOM Center for International Studies and Grants, Dr. Muhammad Aria Rajasa Pohan, M.T.; as well as an external multi-grant expert speaker, Dr. Adi Santoso, S.E., M.M., representing the COE Economics of Advanced Digital Technology (EADT) of Telkom University. Heads of Study Programs and lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM were also in attendance.

    In his opening remarks, the Vice Rector for Technology & ICT, International Programs & Center of Excellence, Prof. Zainal A. Hasibuan, MLS., Ph.D., stated that the workshop is part of ongoing efforts to develop the Center of Excellence, particularly in strengthening the research sector. “On this occasion, we are holding a workshop on writing national and international grant proposals. This is a highly strategic endeavor and a long journey, but we must begin by making preparations to welcome various competitive grant invitations,” expressed Prof. Zainal.

    He noted that the initiative, spearheaded by the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM, is expected to serve as an initial step that can subsequently be expanded and adopted by other faculties within UNIKOM. The presence of both internal and external speakers is anticipated to provide valuable experience, guidance, and mentorship to lecturers in producing high-quality and competitive proposals. Prof. Zainal added that strengthening research is also part of UNIKOM’s contribution to supporting government programs, particularly through the development of higher education institutions that deliver tangible impacts.

    Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for the execution of the workshop, which specifically involved the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM lecturers. She stated that the event aligns with UNIKOM’s efforts to build and strengthen research groups. “Research requires thought, not just individual thought, but the collective thinking of many people to generate excellent ideas. With high-quality data and appropriate methods, it will certainly produce impactful research,” said Prof. Umi.

    Furthermore, Prof. Umi encouraged lecturers to cultivate a collaborative research culture. According to her, collaboration is a crucial element in producing high-quality academic work while simultaneously supporting the academic career development of lecturers. “No single work is solely accomplished alone. Therefore, it is highly appropriate that UNIKOM, particularly the Faculty of Economics and Business, dissects these research activities together,” she added.

    Prof. Umi also highlighted the Center for Digital Business Studies as a significant potential asset to be developed by the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM. She noted that the study center possesses unique characteristics as it is supported by the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. She hopes that the outcomes of research and community service will not stop at academic outputs but can be implemented and developed into various innovations and entrepreneurial activities. This aligns with UNIKOM’s direction to foster the emergence of exceptional AI-based entrepreneurs.

    On the same occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Siti Kurnia Rahayu, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., CA., explained that the workshop is part of the faculty’s efforts to implement UNIKOM’s vision, mission, and objectives, particularly in supporting the strengthening of the Center of Excellence and the development of a research culture within the faculty. According to her, the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM has established a study center which, despite being relatively new, is supported by teaching staff with immense potential for development. The workshop was specifically directed to provide facilitation and mentorship for lecturers, especially those who lack experience as principal investigators in research grant applications.

    Prof. Siti also explained that one of the primary targets to be achieved through this event is the production of research proposals that meet the requirements and qualifications as directed by the speakers. Currently, the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM has formed 15 research groups that are undergoing the proposal development process, and this number is expected to grow. “Regarding the output, our hope is to generate proposals that genuinely fulfill the requirements and qualifications outlined by the speakers. We already have 15 groups, and God willing, this will increase. From these 15 groups, the target is at least one proposal from each group, and if there is more than one, it will certainly be an even better achievement,” she elaborated.

    Not stopping at the workshop’s execution, the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM of UNIKOM has also prepared a follow-up phase through a monitoring and evaluation process. This monitoring will be conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM Study Center to ensure that the materials and workshop outcomes translate into proposals ready for submission to various grant schemes. “The next step after this activity is monitoring. The Head of the Study Center, Mrs. Senny, will observe the extent of the follow-up from this workshop, as we are pushing to have proposals ready for submission to government-related systems this year, both nationally and internationally,” concluded Prof. Siti.

    The workshop series then continued with the main sessions featuring several expert speakers. The Director of the UNIKOM Center for International Studies and Grants, Dr. Muhammad Aria Rajasa Pohan, M.T., delivered a presentation on navigating international grants and consortiums. Subsequently, the Director of DP3M UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irawan Afrianto, S.T., M.T., discussed national research policies and internal institutional strengthening.

    Meanwhile, the external multi-grant expert speaker, Dr. Adi Santoso, S.E., M.M., presented material on the anatomical breakdown of proposals and the formulation of novelty. The session proceeded with a hands-on workshop and a draft clinic, allowing lecturers not only to gain a conceptual understanding but also to directly develop their proposal drafts.

    The event was further complemented by a panel discussion and a live review of proposal drafts, analyzing several proposal ideas from representatives of the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM lecturers. During this session, participants received direct feedback from the speakers to refine their ideas and the substance of their proposals before advancing to the grant submission stage.

    Through this grant workshop specifically targeted at the Faculty of Economics and Business of UNIKOM lecturers, it is hoped that an increasingly collaborative and productive research ecosystem will be established, simultaneously generating highly competitive research proposals at the national and international levels.     SYNERGY IN DISCIPLINE”: Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM Shapes a Character-Driven Generation Through a Character Building Program at Rindam III Siliwangi

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — As part of an effort to instill character, discipline, leadership, and a sense of camaraderie from the very beginning of the students’ academic journey, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) organized a Character Building program titled “Synergy in Discipline: One Soul One Goal.”, at Dodik Bela Negara of Rindam III Siliwangi in Lembang. The event was attended by first-semester students of the 2025-2026 Academic Year and took place from August 5 to 6, 2026.

    The Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Siti Kurnia Rahayu, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., CA., expressed her appreciation for the successful execution of the event during her opening remarks. She emphasized the critical role of character building as an integral part of the educational process. According to her, student success is determined not solely by academic prowess, but also by character, discipline, teamwork, and readiness to navigate future challenges, particularly in the professional world. “Discipline and character are vital foundations that must be cultivated from the student years. Through programs like this, students learn not only how to achieve individual goals but also to understand the importance of synergy and unity in accomplishing collective objectives,” she stated.

    Embracing the theme “Synergy in Discipline: One Soul One Goal,” the Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM Character Building program was designed to foster student awareness regarding the significance of discipline, cooperation, responsibility, solidarity, and leadership. The entire series of activities was curated to provide students with hands-on experience in building cohesion while simultaneously developing their adaptability and teamwork skills.

    The selection of Dodik Bela Negara Rindam III Siliwangi in Lembang as the venue further supported these objectives. The training environment, which is steeped in values of discipline, mental resilience, leadership, and teamwork, offered an atmosphere distinct from the typical campus learning environment. Through this experience, students were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, establish effective communication, and strengthen mutual trust among peers.

    Over the course of the two-day event, students participated in a variety of activities that encouraged active engagement, unity, and character development. The “One Soul One Goal” spirit served as the underlying thread throughout every activity, reinforcing the message that a group’s success requires an alignment of goals, commitment, and contribution from each individual.

    The Character Building program was officially concluded by the First Vice Rector of UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., M.Pd. In her closing address, Prof. Umi commended the students’ enthusiasm and active participation throughout the event. Furthermore, she urged that the experiences and values gained during the program should not end with the event’s conclusion, but rather be consistently applied in both their academic pursuits and daily lives. Discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and cohesion are expected to become deeply ingrained habits as students progress through their journey at Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM. “Character Building is not merely an activity that concludes in two days. The values acquired must be brought back to campus and manifested in everyday behavior, whether in studying, participating in student organizations, or building relationships with peers,” Prof. Umi remarked.

    Through the implementation of this Character Building program, Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM reaffirms its commitment to shaping students who are not only academically exceptional but also possess strong character, discipline, collaborative skills, and a spirit of leadership. The ethos of “Synergy in Discipline: One Soul One Goal” is also expected to serve as a foundation for first-year FEB UNIKOM students to build an academic journey filled with achievements, while growing into individuals capable of synergizing, contributing, and achieving common goals. Thus, the Character Building program serves not only as a momentum to strengthen camaraderie among students, but also as a fundamental step in cultivating a generation of Faculty of Economics and Business UNIKOM students defined by character, integrity, and readiness to face the challenges of the future.  (Directorate of Hms & Pro)

    UNIKOM’s Doctoral Program in Management Science Produces Two New Doctors, Strengthening Scientific Contributions in the Field of Management

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — In August 2026, the Doctoral Program in Management Science, Faculty of Postgraduate, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), once again achieved academic success and produced two new doctors through the success of Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., and Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si. Both were declared graduates after defending their dissertations before the Promoter Team and the Examining Team. The Doctoral Promotion Defense for Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si., participated in the defense on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Both defenses were led directly by the Rector of UNIKOM, Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as Promoter and Chair of the Doctoral Promotion Defense.

    Dr. Windi Novianti Examines Generation Z Investment Decisions

    During her dissertation defense, Dr. Windi presented her dissertation entitled “Keputusan Investasi Gen Z Melalui Bias Perilaku: Pendekatan Keuangan Keperilakuan dalam Konteks Paparan Media Sosial, Literasi Keuangan, dan Ekspektasi Keuntungan (Survey pada Mahasiswa Perguruan Tinggi yang Memiliki Galeri Investasi di Wilayah Jawa Barat)” (Gen Z Investment Decisions Through Behavioral Bias: A Behavioral Finance Approach in the Context of Social Media Exposure, Financial Literacy, and Profit Expectations (Survey of University Students with Investment Galleries in West Java)). The topic focused on Generation Z’s investment decision-making behavior, using a behavioral finance approach that considered social media exposure, financial literacy, and profit expectations.

    Dr. Windi was supervised by Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as her Promoter, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Riyanto, S.T., M.T., CSBA., as her Co-Promoter. To defend her research, she presented her dissertation briefly before facing questions and feedback from the examining panel, which included Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Sc., Prof. Dr. H. Nugraha, S.E., Ak., M.Sc., CA, CPA., CFP, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yoyok Prasetyo, S.T., M.Sy., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isniar Budiarti, S.E., M.Sc. After going through a series of evaluations, she was declared to have passed the Doctoral Promotion Examination. In this doctoral promotion defense, Dr. Windi was recorded as the 4th Doctor in the Doctoral Program in Management, Faculty of Postgraduate, UNIKOM.

    On this occasion, Dr. Windi expressed her gratitude for successfully completing her doctoral education at UNIKOM. Her academic journey at UNIKOM began with her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Management, and then continued her doctoral education at the Doctoral Program in Management. Currently, Dr. Windi also serves as a permanent lecturer at UNIKOM. “Alhamdulillah, this is the culmination of my entire study program. The process was extraordinary, overcoming various challenges, until I finally achieved the highest level of education, a doctoral degree,” she said. She considers the hybrid learning system at UNIKOM to be a convenience during her studies, especially for students residing outside Bandung.

    Dr. Yadi Maryadi Studies Higher Education Performance in the Digital Era

    In the same month, the Doctoral Program in Management Science held another Doctoral Promotion Defense. On that occasion, Dr. Yadi defended his dissertation entitled “Model Kinerja Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Berbasis Kepemimpinan Digital dan Sistem Informasi Manajemen Melalui Budaya Organisasi Sebagai Variabel Mediasi di Lingkungan LLDIKTI Wilayah II” (A Performance Model of Private Higher Education Institutions Based on Digital Leadership and Management Information Systems Through Organizational Culture as a Mediating Variable in the LLDIKTI Region II Environment). Dr. Yadi’s dissertation examined the performance model of private higher education institutions, highlighting digital leadership and management information systems and positioning organizational culture as a mediating variable.

    During the defense, Dr. Yadi was examined by Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., SE., M.Sc., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman S. Soegoto, MBA., Dr. Elvera, SE, M.Sc., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deden Abdul Wahab Sya’roni, Ir., M.Sc. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as Promoter, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isniar Budiarti, SE., M.Si., as Co-Promoter. After presenting his dissertation and answering various questions and responses from the Examining Team and Promoter Team, Dr. Yadi was declared to have passed the Doctoral Promotion Defense. He became the 5th Doctor in the Doctoral Program in Management Science, Faculty of Postgraduate, UNIKOM.

    On this occasion, Dr. Yadi expressed his gratitude for the smooth running of the Doctoral Promotion, which was the culmination of his academic journey. He expressed his appreciation to the UNIKOM Rector, leaders, lecturers, promoters, and all parties who provided support, facilities, prayers, and guidance throughout his studies. He stated that the hybrid learning system at UNIKOM facilitates the ease of attending both online and offline lectures, especially since he is from Pagar Alam. He hopes the knowledge gained will benefit himself, his family, society, nation, and state, and encourages his fellow DIM Batch 1 colleagues to quickly complete their studies and earn doctorates together.

    In his dissertation, Dr. Yadi researched a performance model for private higher education institutions based on digital leadership and management information systems, with organizational culture as a mediating variable for the performance of private higher education institutions in LLDIKTI Region II. He chose this topic because it is relevant to the ongoing digital transformation process in LLDIKTI Region II, with the hope that the research results can contribute to improving the performance of private higher education institutions.

    Two Dissertations, Two Perspectives to Address Contemporary Management Challenges

    The success of Dr. Windi and Dr. Yadi demonstrates the diversity of issues explored through doctoral studies in the Doctoral Program in Management UNIKOM.

    Dr. Windi presented a study on Generation Z investment decisions and behavioral finance, while Dr. Yadi examined the performance of private universities in the context of digital leadership, management information systems, and organizational culture. These two themes have different contexts, but both stem from evolving management issues amidst changes in the organizational and societal environment. This momentum also serves as part of the academic development journey of the Doctoral Program in Management at the Faculty of Postgraduate UNIKOM. With the addition of two new doctors, UNIKOM continues to encourage the development of academics with scientific capacity and the ability to produce research-based studies.

    UNIKOM Commends the Achievements of Two New Doctorates

    The Doctoral Promotion not only marks the final stage of the academic journey, but also serves as a significant milestone for their families, promoters, examiners, and the academic community who have supported their doctoral education.

    After being declared successful, the two new doctors received their Certificates of Passing the Doctoral Promotion and participated in a group photo session with the Promoter Team, the Examiners Team, and their families. The event concluded with the presentation of their impressions, messages, and hopes from the promoters, as well as expressions of gratitude from each of the new doctors.

    Prof. 3. Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., expressed his gratitude and pride for the successful Doctoral Promotion in Management, attended by Dr. Windi and Dr. Yadi. Both were declared successful in completing all academic stages, from study, research, and dissertation, to closed examinations, and open examinations, as part of the academic achievements in UNIKOM’s Doctoral Program in Management. This success is a source of pride for UNIKOM and demonstrates the students’ commitment and perseverance in completing their doctoral studies. Prof. Eddy hopes that the achievements of these two doctors will inspire and motivate other students in the Doctoral Program in Management Science who are currently working on their dissertations to quickly complete their studies and follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

    According to Prof. Eddy, the prospective doctors’ study journeys prove that distance and busy schedules are not obstacles to achieving a doctoral degree. UNIKOM’s hybrid learning system facilitates students, especially those from outside the region, to attend lectures, receive guidance, and communicate effectively with their supervisors and the examining team. The use of digital technology is part of UNIKOM’s efforts to provide an educational process that is adaptive, flexible, and relevant to current developments. Prof. Eddy also congratulated Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., and Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si., on this achievement and expressed his hope that the knowledge and research findings gained during their doctoral studies will make a contribution to the development of science, the institution, and society.

    Webinar by the Master’s Program in Information Systems, UNIKOM Faculty of Postgraduate: Promoting Sustainable Digital Business Through Synergy Between Governance, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — Saturday, August 8, 2026, the Master’s Program in Information Systems at the Faculty of Post Graduate of the Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) sought to strengthen students’ competencies in building innovative, adaptive, and sustainable digital businesses through the webinar “Building Sustainable Digital Businesses through Synergy Among Governance, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.” The event, which focused on the theme “Implementation of the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models Course,” was organized as part of the learning activities for the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course. The webinar was attended by 157 participants from various universities, including students, alumni, members of the public, and Micro and Small Business (MSB) owners.

    The event’s Executive Chair, Wita Fajriah, a Master’s student in Information Systems, stated in her opening remarks that advancements in digital technology have brought about significant changes in the business world. Digitalization presents both opportunities and challenges that require the business world to continuously adapt. “Sustainable digital businesses require not only technology and innovation but also good governance and an entrepreneurial spirit. These three aspects are expected to work in synergy to create businesses that are innovative, adaptive, competitive, and capable of delivering long-term benefits,” she explained.

    Furthermore, the Chair of UNIKOM’s Master’s Program in Information Systems, Sri Supatmi, M.T., D.Sc., emphasized that the webinar’s theme is highly relevant to current global developments. In her view, digital technology is no longer merely a supporting tool but has evolved into a crucial component of business strategy for creating value and competitive advantage. “Sustainable digital business requires more than just technology. We need strong governance, continuous innovation, and an entrepreneurial spirit capable of identifying opportunities and transforming them into valuable solutions and business models,” she explained. She added that through the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course, students are expected not only to understand technological aspects but also to think strategically, create opportunities, build business models, and lead digital transformation.

    On that occasion, the Rector of UNIKOM, Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., expressed his appreciation for the event, which brought together faculty members, academic programs, students, and the community in a single learning forum. According to him, digital technology is evolving at a rapid pace, so the business world must have the ability to keep up with these changes through creativity and innovation. “Master’s students in Information Systems are certainly expected to develop their creativity and innovation so that the knowledge gained during their master’s studies can be applied, developed, and provide added value to institutions in need,” he stated. Prof. Eddy also noted that webinars serve as an excellent platform to broaden understanding while encouraging students to connect the knowledge acquired during their studies with real-world needs across various institutions.

    Meanwhile, the Dean of the UNIKOM Postgraduate Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma Wahdiniwaty, Dra., M.Si., explained that this activity is part of the implementation of the “Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models” course, which employs a team-teaching approach. The course involves the UNIKOM Rector, the Dean of the Graduate School, the Deputy Vice Rector IV, and the Director of Digital Technology & Information Systems Development (PTDSI). “Through this activity, we want to demonstrate that learning about entrepreneurship and digital business does not only take place in a classroom setting but can also be implemented through knowledge and experience-sharing activities,” she explained.

    In line with this, the Director of UNIKOM’s PTDSI and Lecturer in the Master’s Program in Information Systems, Irfan Dwiguna Sumitra, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of human adaptability amid rapid technological advancements. According to him, technology should not be viewed as a factor that replaces humans, but rather as a means to accelerate innovation and generate solutions that meet societal needs. “Technology is no longer a factor that will replace humans, but rather it is about how humans can adapt to technological advancements by continuing to learn and hone their creativity,” he said. He emphasized that the success of technological products whether in the form of applications or business models is largely determined by their ability to address the real needs of society so that they can be utilized optimally.

    The webinar was also part of the celebrations marking UNIKOM’s 26th anniversary. UNIKOM’s First Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., expressed her appreciation to the Graduate School and all parties who initiated the event. She emphasized that the spirit of entrepreneurship is a vital component in the development of higher education and encouraged the younger generation to become an integral part of the UNIKOM ecosystem. “Entrepreneurship is our collective effort to nurture students and prospective students who can thrive and contribute in the future,” she stated.

    The series of activities continued with a presentation moderated by Luthfiyah Sakinah. Three speakers from diverse backgrounds were present to share their experiences and practical perspectives on information technology governance, digital business development, and digital transformation.

    The first speaker, A.S. Antapradja, S.IP., a UNIKOM Master’s student in Information Systems and Head of the Technology Business Unit at PT Sucofindo (Persero), presented on PT Sucofindo’s ICT services in support of information technology governance in Indonesia. His presentation provided an overview of how the utilization of information technology services and solutions can support organizational governance and meet the needs of digital transformation in the industrial sector.

    Next, David Erwinson, S.Kom., M.M., owner of Croccante Chips and an alumnus of the Master’s in Management program at UNIKOM’s Graduate School, shared his experience in building and managing a sustainable digital business. The practical insights he shared gave participants a clear picture of how digital business concepts can be directly applied—from business development to efforts to maintain business sustainability amid technological changes and shifting market demands.

    Meanwhile, the third speaker, Ariep, S.T., M.CAS., Founder of Rumah Komunitas, discussed strategies for building digital businesses and the importance of digital transformation for business sustainability. He encouraged participants to understand that digital transformation is not merely about keeping up with technological advancements, but is a strategic step to enhance competitiveness, expand markets, and create business models that are more adaptive to change.

    These three presentations enriched the participants’ perspectives by offering a combination of information technology governance, practical experience in building businesses, and digital transformation strategies. This aligns with the objectives of the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course, which not only equips students with concepts but also encourages them to understand their real-world applications.

    The final session of the webinar was interactive, featuring a question-and-answer session and discussion between participants and the speakers. The various questions and experiences shared by participants provided a space for exchanging ideas on the challenges of digital business development, technology utilization, governance, and strategies for building businesses capable of surviving and growing sustainably.

    “Waste Data, Organized Environment”: UNIKOM’s 2026 Impactful Community Service Program in Coblong Develops a Technology-Based Waste Management Model Toward Zero Waste

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — In strengthening its commitment to providing higher education that creates a tangible impact on society, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government and the Coblong Subdistrict Government, is implementing the 2026 Impactful Community Service Program or KKN Berdampak. The program is aimed at strengthening waste management while providing students with a learning environment through direct engagement with the community.

    The main focuses of the KKN Berdampak in Coblong Subdistrict include education on waste sorting at the source, community assistance, strengthening waste management governance, technology-based data collection, and the development of a circular economy. Furthermore, the program represents UNIKOM’s contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly sustainable urban development, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and strengthened multi-stakeholder partnerships. As part of the program’s implementation, UNIKOM officially deployed students participating in the KKN Berdampak to Coblong Subdistrict on August 12, 2026. A total of approximately 569 students were involved in directly collaborating with local communities and various government stakeholders in implementing the planned waste management initiatives.

    The PIC and Coordinator of UNIKOM’s KKN Berdampak Dr. Nungki Heriyati, S.S., M.A., explained that the KKN Berdampak is a collaborative initiative between UNIKOM and the West Java Provincial Government designed to connect students’ learning processes with real-world issues in society. “On this occasion, UNIKOM has deployed approximately 569 students to Coblong Subdistrict. The main focus is addressing waste-related issues, particularly in the Coblong Subdistrict area,” explained Dr. Nungki.

    The students will collaborate with urban village authorities, waste management officers, as well as community members at the RW and RT levels. The collaboration is primarily aimed at providing education on waste sorting and management while assisting community members in adopting these practices in a sustainable manner.

    Impactful Community Service as an Implementation of the SDGs

    The waste management initiative, which is a key focus of the Impactful Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak), is directly aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting cleaner, healthier, more organized, and sustainable residential environments, the program supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Education on household waste sorting, waste reduction, material reuse, and the development of a circular economy also aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

    Furthermore, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills and reusing materials are relevant to efforts to minimize environmental impacts and support SDG 13: Climate Action. Meanwhile, the involvement of UNIKOM, the West Java Provincial Government, Coblong Subdistrict, urban villages, neighborhood associations (RT/RW), local communities, and relevant government agencies reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

    Students Learn, Communities Benefit

    UNIKOM Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs and Chair of the 2026 UNIKOM Impactful Community Service Committee, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., emphasized that the Impactful Community Service is part of a structured learning process that has been carefully prepared through student training and field surveys before students are deployed to the community.

    “Students do not only learn in the classroom. Through the KKN Berdampak, they learn to observe real conditions in the field, collaborate with the community, and apply the soft skills they have developed,” said Prof. Umi.

    To ensure that the Community Service activities are implemented in a structured and measurable manner, students are accompanied by Supervising Lecturers (Dosen Pembimbing Lapangan/DPL). UNIKOM has also prepared a digital system to help monitor the activities of students and DPLs in the field. Each student activity will be recorded through the system, including its location, time, type of activity, and implementation documentation. The system is designed to ensure that students carry out activities in accordance with the established programs, while also serving as part of the monitoring and evaluation process.

    From an academic perspective, the KKN Berdampak is also integrated into the learning process through a Semester Credit Unit (SKS) recognition scheme. Dr. Nungki explained that, under the scheme, Community Service activities may be recognized for up to a maximum of 20 SKS, although their implementation is adjusted to the policies and curricula of each study program.

    “The conversion to SKS is approximately a maximum of 20 SKS, but this ultimately depends on each study program. For example, the Management Study Program adopts a 10-SKS scheme, while several study programs that have compulsory courses continue to conduct lectures for one or two courses,” she explained.

    Rooted in Real-World Issues

    The development of UNIKOM’s KKN Berdampak (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak) is based on the identification of issues encountered in the field. Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., a lecturer at UNIKOM’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK) who is involved in the development of the program, explained that the KKN Berdampak is positioned as a social project carried out seriously and systematically, rather than merely as an administrative activity of higher education institutions. “The KKN Berdampak is a social project that we can genuinely undertake with full commitment,” Dr. Agus stated.

    Therefore, the approach adopted does not simply involve bringing solutions from the university to the community. Instead, it begins with identifying the needs of the community through a bottom-up approach.

    In the context of waste management, the issues are mapped into three stages: upstream, intermediate, and downstream. At the upstream level, the primary issue identified is the low level of public awareness regarding waste segregation at the household level. “The major problem lies upstream, particularly in waste segregation. Therefore, the approach we take is persuasive and educational,” Dr. Agus explained.

    This approach is implemented through education, practical examples, community assistance, and appreciation for residents who have begun implementing waste segregation practices.

    Data-Driven Waste Management for a Well-Organized Environment

    To strengthen waste management governance, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) is developing a technology-based approach through a waste data collection system. Segregated waste bins will be equipped with QR-based identification codes that can be linked to a mobile application. The system is designed to connect each waste bin with its corresponding household or owner, allowing waste management activities to be recorded in a more systematic manner.

    Supported by artificial intelligence (AI)-based features, the system is designed to help identify the condition of waste bins, including the volume and characteristics of organic and non-organic waste. The collected data will help waste management personnel determine collection priorities while providing an overview of waste generation in each area. At the neighborhood (RT), community (RW), sub-district, and Environmental Agency (DLH) levels, the data is expected to serve as a basis for determining waste management needs and policies.

    This concept is encapsulated in the spirit of “Data-Driven Waste Management for a Well-Organized Environment.” According to Dr. Agus, a data-based approach is essential to ensure that policies are not formulated merely on the basis of assumptions, but rather on factual conditions in the field. “If we need to add personnel, we have the data. If we need additional infrastructure or waste collection vehicles, we already have operational data,” he explained.

    Turning Waste into a Circular Economy

    UNIKOM’s Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak also incorporates a circular economy approach to waste management. Organic waste has the potential to be processed into maggot feed, while non-organic waste can be channeled through waste banks or repurposed into various useful products. One example being prepared is the utilization of used plastic bottles as plant pots and as part of hydroponic development. This initiative can be integrated with the “Buruan Sae” program in Bandung.

    UNIKOM is also exploring opportunities to utilize technology to support cultivation processes, including technology-based watering and fertilization systems. “The main target is to reduce the amount of waste generated per day in each area, increase public awareness, and ultimately create new benefits. That is what we aim to build, which we call the circular economy,” said Dr. Agus.

    Coblong Sub-District Promotes Consistency Toward Zero Waste

    Head of Coblong Sub-District, Ratna Rahayu Pitriyati, S.STP., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for UNIKOM’s initiative in selecting Coblong Sub-District as one of the locations for the implementation of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak. According to her, waste management is a strategic issue in Bandung that requires collaboration among various stakeholders. UNIKOM’s involvement is expected to strengthen the efforts of the sub-district government, urban village administrations, and local communities in finding more effective waste management solutions.

    “We greatly appreciate UNIKOM for initiating this program, which will undoubtedly provide tremendous contributions and impact,” she said.

    She further noted that collaboration with higher education institutions could serve as an example and encourage other universities to become involved in addressing issues faced by communities. She also called on the public to support the implementation of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak. “Let us support this initiative, collaborate, work together, and jointly create a clean, green, and waste-free environment,” she emphasized.

    Furthermore, Coblong Sub-District hopes that the impact of the community service program will continue even after the students have completed the program. Consistency is one of the key outcomes expected, so that waste segregation and management can gradually develop into a community culture.

    “The output we most hope to see is consistency. We hope that there will be changes in waste management practices and that, ultimately, Coblong can become a zero-waste sub-district,” she concluded.

    UNIKOM Develops a Role Model for Environmental Management

    UNIKOM’s commitment to environmental management is not only directed toward the community but also begins within the university itself. Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., explained that UNIKOM is strengthening waste management practices across the campus by providing waste segregation facilities, educational initiatives, and efforts to build awareness and compliance among the academic community.

    Within the UNIKOM campus environment, waste segregation is organized into several categories: organic, non-organic, residual waste, and recyclable materials.

    “UNIKOM must become a role model within its own environment,” said Dr. Agus.

    According to him, behavioral change cannot be achieved through instructions alone. A persuasive and educational approach is necessary to ensure that waste segregation develops from mere awareness into compliance and, ultimately, becomes a habit.

    Collaboration for Sustainable Impact

    The 2026 KKN Berdampak in Coblong Subdistrict demonstrates that higher education institutions can play a strategic role in addressing community issues while supporting the sustainable development agenda. Students become part of the change process, lecturers contribute through mentoring and methodological support, the government provides policy support and regional coordination, while the community serves as the key actor in ensuring the sustainability of the program.

    For students, the Community Service Program provides an opportunity to develop communication, leadership, teamwork, social awareness, problem-solving, and the ability to apply academic knowledge in real-life contexts. Meanwhile, for the government, the collaboration is expected to provide additional resources, ideas, mentoring, and data that can strengthen policy-making processes. For the community, the program is expected to provide knowledge, assistance, management systems, and opportunities to transform waste into valuable resources.

    Ultimately, the success of the KKN Berdampak is not measured solely by the number of students deployed or the number of activities conducted. More importantly, its impact can be seen in changes in community behavior, reductions in waste volume, the availability of data, the growth of the circular economy, and the sustainability of the systems established after the program concludes.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — In celebration of its 26th anniversary, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) continues to reinforce its commitment to providing higher education that adapts to technological advancements and future needs. This commitment was realized through a workshop titled “26 Years of UNIKOM: Reimagining Curriculum for the Artificial Intelligence Era Producing World-Class Digital Leaders through a Future-Ready Curriculum,” held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the UNIKOM 17th-Floor Auditorium.

    Initiated by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs in collaboration with the UNIKOM Ad Hoc Curriculum Team, the workshop was specifically designed to deepen the academic community’s understanding of the philosophy, urgency, implementation, and evaluation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) as a crucial foundation for higher education curriculum development. The participation of university leadership, study program administrators, and faculty members underscored that curriculum transformation is a shared responsibility and a vital component of UNIKOM’s academic development strategy in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

    Attendees included the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si.; the Vice Rector for Resources, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Riyanto, S.T., M.T., CSBA; the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Accreditation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman S. Soegoto, MBA; the Vice Rector for Digital Technology & ICT, International Programs, and Center of Excellence, Prof. Zainal A. Hasibuan, Ph.D.; and Deputy Vice Rector IV, Adam Mukharil Bachtiar, S.Kom., M.T., Ph.D. They were joined by deans, heads of study programs, and the broader UNIKOM faculty.

    UNIKOM’s Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, emphasized that the workshop is part of UNIKOM’s strategic initiative to foster a shared mindset among the academic community regarding the implementation of the OBE curriculum. She noted that the curriculum holds a fundamental position in education, serving as the blueprint for how the learning process is conducted and how student competencies are shaped.

    “The curriculum is the heart of education. It is through the curriculum that we communicate our strengths and areas of excellence to the public. Therefore, how it is designed and presented is a shared responsibility among leadership, faculty members, and the entire academic community,” stated Prof. Umi.

    She explained that curriculum development and refinement have traditionally been carried out at the study program level before being brought to the faculty level for input and approval. Feedback from various stakeholders also plays a crucial role in ensuring the resulting curriculum remains relevant to the needs of society, the workforce, and advancements in science and technology.

    Furthermore, Prof. Umi highlighted the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is currently driving major changes across the educational landscape. She noted that the integration of AI is inevitable, requiring the academic community—particularly faculty members—to be prepared to adapt and utilize it appropriately within the educational process.

    “We are in the digital era. Like it or not, we must face it. The key is not merely using AI, but how faculty members can anticipate and guide its use so that students’ critical thinking and creativity continue to flourish,” she explained.

    According to Prof. Umi, the use of AI should not diminish the role of the lecturer or the students’ independent thinking abilities. Instead, this technology must be positioned as part of a learning ecosystem that helps students develop critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, and collaborative skills while fostering responsible technology use.

    This step reinforces UNIKOM’s commitment to realizing an “AI-Ready Campus”—an environment where human resources, learning processes, curricula, and the academic ecosystem are prepared to navigate the evolution of artificial intelligence. This readiness focuses not only on technological mastery but also on the academic community’s ability to utilize AI wisely, productively, and ethically to enhance the quality of education.

    Thus, the curriculum transformation undertaken by UNIKOM extends far beyond the mere updating of academic documents. The curriculum is designed to serve as an instrument for building an educational ecosystem that bridges academic competence, technological mastery, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the needs of the professional world.

    Prof. Umi added that after gaining a firm understanding of the OBE concept, lecturers and study program managers will continue refining the draft curriculum. The curriculum will then be evaluated using feedback from external stakeholders to ensure its relevance to industry needs and technological developments.

    “After this foundational concept is provided, the lecturers will enter a development session to refine the prepared curriculum. In the next stage, we will invite external parties to provide input,” she stated.

    Prof. Umi hopes this process will produce a curriculum capable of addressing the challenges of the digital era while supporting UNIKOM’s vision of producing globally competitive graduates. She emphasized that, moving forward, all UNIKOM curricula will be directed toward implementing OBE principles. “There should be no curriculum at UNIKOM that does not implement OBE principles. We want this curriculum to produce world-class digital leaders,” she concluded.

    Transitioning to the main agenda, the talk show session featured Prof. Umi Narimawati and Prof. Zainal A. Hasibuan, and was moderated by Deputy Vice Rector IV, Adam Mukharil Bachtiar. In his introduction, Dr. Adam explained that the curriculum discussion was closely tied to the AI transformation agenda currently being developed by UNIKOM.

    “Our theme today is still related to AI. While we previously discussed AI in general, we are now moving on to how AI is positioned within the curriculum,” Adam stated.

    He explained that the workshop series was designed so participants could not only understand the theoretical concepts of OBE but also see how these principles are applied in real-world curriculum development. The initial session focused on the philosophy behind OBE, including the mindset shift necessary to implement it consistently.

    According to Adam, OBE cannot be viewed simply as a way to fulfill academic administrative requirements. It requires a shift in educational design, encompassing everything from determining learning outcomes and structuring the learning process to selecting assessment methods and evaluating student competency.

    “OBE isn’t just about administration. There are documents and evaluations, but the most important thing is mindset. If our mindset still relies on the old curriculum, we will struggle to truly implement OBE,” he explained.

    He noted that the event was divided into several focused sessions. Following the morning explanation of OBE philosophy and evaluation, the afternoon featured parallel sessions for study program managers and lecturers.

    Heads and coordinators of study programs gathered in Room 7.010 to discuss the readiness and development of the OBE-based curriculum, assessing how closely their drafts adhered to OBE principles. Meanwhile, lecturers remained in the 17th-Floor Auditorium to discuss implementing OBE in the classroom. The lecturers’ session also explored how OBE principles can adapt to a changing educational ecosystem, including the development of hybrid learning and the use of AI in teaching.

    This division of sessions ensured that curriculum transformation was addressed from all angles from management and development at the program level to concrete implementation in student learning experiences. The OBE approach serves as a crucial foundation because it places learning outcomes at the center of education, ensuring that targeted competencies are not only taught but are truly achievable and measurable. Through the momentum of its 26th anniversary, UNIKOM reaffirmed its commitment to continuous educational innovation. Strengthening the OBE-based curriculum, preparing for the AI era, and developing robust digital and entrepreneurial ecosystems are integral to UNIKOM’s journey toward building a higher education institution that remains relevant to the times.
