Author: Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, Theresia Valentina Lumban Gaol, Chepi Nur Albar, Natasha Puspa Dewi

    Abstract

This research is being carried out to assist in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through trash management by reducing the household trash volume and environmental pollution. The trash volume is reduced by designing a trash counting device using the Pahl and Beitz design method and the Indonesian National Standard 3242:2008, which is then analysed qualitatively. According to the findings of this study, the trash volume generated in the Cibeusi Tourism Village over the next five years (2022-2026) will be 13-14 m3/person/day. The structure of the trash shredder consists of a trash entrance, trash tank, blade housing, and trash screen. The population in the Cibeusi Tourism Village is taken into account in the trash projected volume analysis, which is adjusted to the formula provisions of the Indonesian National Standard 3242:2008. The shredder machine, on the other hand, has a trash tank size of 55 cm x 52 cm x 15 cm and is supported by 10 disc-shaped cutting blades with a diameter of 17 cm and a thickness of 2 cm. This machine is used to reduce the volume of trash piles by shredding the trash into small pieces. It is expected that this research will support in making the Cibeusi Village community to manage trash directly rather than relying on the government’s trash transportation schedule to accelerate trash decomposition as well as reduce air and environmental pollution caused by burning and landfilling activities. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    DOI: 10.4314/njtd.v19i4.6

    Abstract

This study aimed to assess the economic and engineering feasibility of a large-scale biodiesel manufacturing operation from edible oil waste. The edible oil model used for economic analysis in this study is palm oil waste. Several economic parameters (i.e., gross profit margin (GPM), payback period (PBP), break-even point (BEP), cumulative net present value (CNPV), profitability index (PI)), and internal rate return (IRR) were examined to inform the potential production of biodiesel from edible oil waste in ideal condition. To confirm the feasibility of a manufacturing project, the project is estimated from ideal to worst-case conditions in production activities such as analysis of changing raw material, labor, tax, utility, and selling price costs. Based on an engineering perspective, the result indicated that biodiesel production from edible and non-edible oil is feasible. From an economic perspective, economic analysis shows that biodiesel production from edible oil waste is promising because the economic parameters as analyzed show positive results. Our findings are expected to provide an industrial-scale picture of economic evaluation and layout, particularly in the production of biodiesel, which is commonly used as a renewable energy source for fuel in trucks, trains, ships, and barges. © 2022, University of Ilorin, Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Abstract:

The government’s efforts to maintain national energy stability through programs to increase supply and save energy must be supported by all levels of society, including the upstream side. This study analyzes the potential percentage of electrical energy savings on the upstream side, namely the generation sector. In this study, we will discuss the potential for saving electrical energy own use at PLTP Karaha 1 Pertamina Geothermal Energy located in Tasikmalaya district, West Java. In supporting the operation of PLTP Karaha unit 1, patrol check activities are needed which function to monitor the condition of generating equipment to ensure that the supporting equipment of the generator is in optimal condition. But in fact, when the patrol check activity has been completed, the room lights or indoor lighting are left on for 24 hours continuously due to the engineering design of the lights during the EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) process. So, a control system is designed to operate indoor lighting automatically using Passive Infra-Red (PIR) sensors and Arduino ATMega 2560 module. Programming on Arduino is done using the Arduino IDE application. In the Arduino IDE application, it shows the library initialization program (sensor) and the initialization of the pins used on the Arduino. The program made on the Arduino IDE application is a program to control the On-Off lights, the LCD display includes the number of people entering the MCC room, the On-Lamp time and the total energy kWh. By using this method, it is hoped that it can be a solution for saving the use of electrical energy for indoor lighting. © 2023 IEEE.

    DOI: 10.1109/INCITEST64888.2024.11121507

    Abstract:

This research investigates the application of a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for controlling an electric power steering (EPS) system equipped with a brushless direct current (BLDC) motor. EPS is an advanced automotive technology to assists drivers by reducing the physical effort needed to steer a vehicle and enabling precise computer-controlled steering in autonomous vehicles. EPS systems offer significant benefits over traditional hydraulic systems, including improved energy efficiency and steering precision. While EPS systems can present challenges due to their nonlinear characteristics, this study focuses on their linear range where the PID controller’s simplicity and effectiveness are beneficial. By optimizing PID parameters, the controller achieved precise tracking, fast transient response, and minimal steady-state error. Performance evaluation using a ± 10° angle target showed a rise time of 0.155 seconds, a settling time of 0.307 seconds, and an overshoot of 3.6% for a +10° target, and a rise time of 0.155 seconds, a settling time of 0.310 seconds, and an overshoot of 3.3% for a -10 target. These results show the PID controller’s capability to deliver consistent and accurate control in the EPS system, particularly when operating within its linear range. © 2024 IEEE.

    Abstract:

Electric energy is a vital element for the Indonesian community. However, in frontier, underdeveloped, and remote areas, access to electricity is uneven. An appropriate solution is necessary to overcome these supply limitations. This research aims to construct a micro hydro power plant utilizing existing river flows. The research employed descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach, while the equipment’s performance analysis used the fuzzy time series method. Findings indicate that micro hydro technology can generate up to 40 kW using four generators, relying on a minimum river flow rate of 60 litters per second. This system can meet the needs of 72 households with a lifespan of up to 15 years. The core concept was to use river flow to drive turbines, generating electrical power. Consequently, the government can minimize electricity development costs from major urban centres. Ultimately, micro hydro power generation technology serves as a solution for frontier, remote, and underdeveloped areas, providing access to electricity and illumination, and supporting the community’s living requirements. © 2024 Taylor’s University.
