    DOI: –

    Abstract:

Blended learning model is a popular learning model and is trusted by many educational institutions in the world as a more effective model. However, it has several challenges and weaknesses, namely the lack of monitoring and assessment of learning activities during online sessions or asynchronous sessions. This study aims to build an autonomous monitoring system using facial expression recognition and gamification methods to support the learning process with a blended learning model. The result of this research is a design and implementation of an autonomous monitoring system that displays real-time monitoring reports with the concept of gamification. Real-time reports can be used by teachers as one of the assessment points for students. In addition, the applied gamification concept has motivated students to take the distance learning process seriously and quickly because they are competing to get points. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

Equitable internet coverage has emerged as a key global priority, which is essential for promoting inclusive and sustainable development. The Indonesian government aims to provide universal internet access by 2024, particularly in remote regions. This study introduces a novel machine-learning-based approach to identify the priority areas for deploying Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers, which are crucial for achieving the internet access targets of the government. A BTS Network Priority Index was developed by integrating the internet demand estimates with a BTS suitability index derived from key predictors: proximity to fiber optic stations, physical–environmental suitability, and infrastructure–economic readiness. The model identified areas with high internet demand and high BTS suitability as the most critical for immediate development, covering 20 km2. Additionally, future BTS development should target areas with high demand but medium suitability (900 km2) and medium demand but high suitability (280 km2). To validate the methodology, the Random Forest model was employed, which achieved an area under the curve value of 0.7315, indicating strong predictive performance. For the BTS Deployment Suitability parameter, the median was 0.65, with the lower and upper quartiles at 0.44 and 0.85, respectively, confirming that most proposed locations are highly suitable for development. This systematic approach provides data-driven insights for the equitable distribution of BTS towers to ensure efficient internet infrastructure expansion across Indonesia. Furthermore, the study offers a framework that can be adapted by other countries aiming to improve their digital infrastructure and achieve comprehensive, equitable internet access. © 2024 The Author(s)

    DOI: 10.29333/ejecs/2350

    Abstract

Social workers play an important role in uplifting rural communities’ living standards. Considering the important role of social work services in dealing with the existence of potential issues of poverty and poor economic conditions in rural communities, more specifically in emerging economies, the current study integrated the community-based targeting view with empowerment theory to determine the social workers’ role in achieving community welfare in rural areas. Using rural household survey data from 597 households from 15 rural communities in two provinces of Indonesia, modern statistical tools, that is, SmartPLS analyzed the data. Results showed that social workers’ work relationships, skills and varieties, and moral alignment with rural communities enhance their empowerment qualities. The empowerment of social workers further transmits the significance of their role in helping rural communities bring economic development and welfare by providing basic needs of education, health facilities, employment opportunities, etc. The current study findings are valuable for practitioners and policymakers, specifically for focusing on rural community development programs by utilizing social workers’ efforts and extending their social networks to extract maximum benefits. © 2025, Florida Gulf Coast University. Authors: Syahrul S, Sri Nurhayati, Mochamad Fajar Wicaksono, Tiara Nurul Fatimah

    Abstract

This research focused on the real-time detection of child stunting using measurement tools powered by Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Child stunting refers to a condition characterized by impaired height growth that does not align with a child’s age. One of the government’s primary strategies to combat stunting is through Posyandu (Indonesian community-level health service centers) that play a vital role in public health initiatives. Currently, most Posyandu in Indonesia rely on manual methods for monitoring child nutrition, with limited adoption of IoT technology for this purpose. This research introduced a system comprising both hardware and software components to address this gap. The hardware includes a load cell sensor for measuring weight and an ultrasonic sensor for measuring height. These sensors are integrated with an ESP32 microcontroller for data processing. The software component is a web-based application that receives data transmitted from the hardware via IoT technology. During testing, the hardware demonstrated accurate measurements of children’s weight and height, with an average error of only 0.14 kg for weight and 0 mm for height. Furthermore, the web application performed reliably, providing stunting detection information with a 100% success rate. This study supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.
