    Abstract

    For many years, throughout the world, people have had, and continue to have, pressing, endless and urgent needs to build conducive and human friendly communities. However, in a disaster situation, many lose lives, property, infrastructure, close friends and family members, something which causes multiple pain and suffering. Such a condition calls for a tested strategy and or approach, which can heal all the post-disaster wounds and pains brought about by deadly calamities (such as tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes). In this case, among the most appropriate strategies is vocational skills training. Based on this, in the present study the authors seek to examine the effectiveness of this strategy from an educational, managerial and technological perspective with the aim of establishing how the strategy should work to build sustainable communities in a post-disaster situation. It is concluded that communities need to possess appropriate knowledge, attitude, and skills necessarily for their survival after minor and severe disasters. This can take place in the form of vocational training and skills development. © 2017 WIETE.

    Abstract

    This paper will be composed by conducting a document review and collect papers that related to big data solution and infrastructure. The survey is trying to cover the phases for building a common big data pipelines by following these structures: enterprise vision and mission that affect the big data architecture, defining the data sources, building the backend services to collect the datapoint from the data sources, utilize the data pipeline to prevent data loss, consuming the data pipeline message and deliver it to the data storage, build the raw data storage, define business-driven data visualization and analytics, build the ETL, build business-oriented data storage, applying statistical and machine learning, perform the business-driven visualization and implementing the monitoring for the big data pipelines. The survey will emphasize that many big data components could help the small-medium enterprise to tackle their big data operational issues. Copyright © 2020 EAI

    Abstract:

    Fraud is a systematic crime that has a very broad impact. It can happen in any fields, including in hospitals. Fraud is a form of corruption. Hospital is a health service institution. Corruption in hospitals has the potential to lead to ineffective health services for people. The phenomenon of health care fraud in hospital is an indication the law does not function in accordance with the objective. This study aims to determine the functionalization of law and sentence for fraudulent acts as a form of corruption in hospitals based on justice values. This study is a descriptive study with normative juridical method that employed statutory and conceptual approaches. The data were collected through a literature study. It was subsequently analyzed qualitatively. This study is of the position to view that prosecution of criminal acts of corruption requires functionalization of law. The functionalization of law must be interpreted as positioning everything in its proper place. It is the synergy of the legal system, which consists of formulative, judicial, and executive policies. The criminal procedures can apply the punishment system for perpetrators of fraudulent acts in hospitals that includes extended alternative punishment. © 2021, Padjadjaran University.   • Implementation of Simulation Software on Vocational High School Students in Programming and Arduino Microcontroller Subject

    Abstract

    The purpose of this study is to determine students’ learning performance who underwent simulation software class on the Programming and Arduino Microcontroller Subject. A quasi-experimental study, with pretest and posttest design was implemented. The subject involved 74 vocational high school students (37 in the control group and 37 in the experimental group) have undergone eight weeks of treatment, using conventional and Proteus simulation software. Students’ performance was measured using achievement test; involved cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspect, which was based on the Bloom’s Taxonomy. The result indicated that students in the experimental group have outperformed their counterpart in the control group in cognitive aspect (81.4 vs 76.24), affective aspect (81.83 vs 76.34) and psychomotor aspect (79.04 vs 70.37). Further analysis using independent t-test, result indicated that the experimental group’s performance has significantly difference from the control group’s performance at all aspects [t(72) = 3.068, p = .004]. In conclusion, simulation software using Proteus has a significant contribution to increase students’ performance in learning. The implication is that, teaching difficult subject involves programming of microcontroller should use simulation software, so that students become more enthusiast, have many choices in experimenting and capable of nurturing creativity. Future study suggested to focus on the effect of simulation software on nurturing specific creativity skills. © Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia Publisher’s Office.

    Abstract:

    Pretrial is a process that precedes a trial in court or a preliminary examination before entering a trial. However, in its application, pretrial institutions both before and after the Constitutional Court Decision Number 21/PUU-XII/2014 are not in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code and also have weaknesses or shortcomings. This paper aims to find out the presence of pretrial institutions in the perspective of the Pancasila state of law. In other hand, pretrial institution as an institution that oversees the protection of the human rights of suspects/defendants is regulated in Chapter X Articles 77 to Article 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The determination of the suspect must be carried out carefully by taking into account the principle of presumption of innocence as a general principle in criminal procedural law that must be enforced by law enforcers. In law enforcement, of course, there must be supervision both vertically and horizontally so as to minimize the occurrence of irregularities. Therefore, it is important to establish an Ad Hoc institution as a substitute for a Pretrial institution in which the judges consisting of career judges, legal practitioners and academics can act whether there is an application or not which is filed by the suspect/defendant or his family or proxies so that the decision is objective. Thus, it is important to reformulate the Criminal Procedure Code regarding the determination of suspects. © The Authors.

  • The Potential Criminal Threat of Gatherings During 

    the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia

    Abstract

    This study aims to determine the regulation of criminal threats for crowding in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic according to positive law in Indonesia and to find out the criminal threats (prison or fines) against those who crowd in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic according to the penal system. The approach method used in this research is normative juridical and the research specification uses descriptive analytical method. The results of the study show that in positive law there are administrative criminal sanctions that are threatened for perpetrators who gather in the in the time of COVID-19 pandemic, namely Article 14 paragraph (1) of Law No. 4, 1984 concerning Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases, Article 93 of Law Number 6, 2018 concerning Quarantine, Article 212, Article 214, Article 216, and Article 218 of the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, the criminal threat for those attracting crowds amidst the COVID-19 pandemic can be subject to criminal penalties if the perpetrators resist as stipulated in the legislation, but this criminal sanction is a last resort or ultimum remedium. Thus, the author is of the view that it is necessary to have a functioning agency or institution that is concerned with prevention and supervision through massive approach and layered supervision. © 2021, JURNAL LITIGASI.

    Abstract

    This paper presents a semiotic analysis focusing on the discursive level. This study investigates the figurative components, syntactical/grammatical features, and enunciative components of the signs embedded in Sundanese cultural spells, specifically Asihan Leugeut teuerup. A qualitative descriptive method was implemented to unveil the meanings and interpretations presented in the spells. The study discovered that: (1) the sign reference, known as its figurative components, was divided into five isotopies carrying specific cultural connotations; (2) the spells were also preferably characterized by nominative structure rather than the predicative; its syntactical structures were dominated by imperative moods and kecap anteuran (anticipatory verbal inchoative words); and (3) the way the spells were narrated was through the first-person protagonist and diegetic, meaning that the actor was the narrator himself. The findings suggest that the signs presented in the spells provide suggestive insights through components that relate closely to users’ daily and iterative activities. These suggestive insights can be interpreted as how users understand the meaning of the signs. © 2024 by author(s).
