    Implementation of the MoU between UNIKOM and KPID West Java: The Faculty of Postgraduate and Its Six Study Programs Officially Establish Cooperation and Hold a Public Lecture On “5+1 Broadcasting Perspectives”

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the Faculty of Postgraduate of Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in collaboration with the West Java Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID West Java), held the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), along with the signing of an Implementation Agreement (IA) between KPID West Java and six study programs within the Faculty of Postgraduate. Held in the Master’s Program in Communication Studies classroom on the 12th floor of the UNIKOM Smart Building, the event served as a follow-up to the strategic MoU previously signed by KPID West Java and the Rector of UNIKOM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

    The Head of the UNIKOM Master’s Program in Communication Studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desayu Eka Surya, S.Sos., M.Si., CICS., who served as the Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated in her report, “This event not only marks an important milestone in strengthening institutional cooperation but is also realized through the implementation of a joint activity in the form of a public lecture entitled 5+1 Broadcasting Perspectives.” She further explained, “The theme of the public lecture explores broadcasting from various strategic perspectives, namely ideology, politics, economics, socio-cultural issues, and psychology, with psychology serving as an additional dimension that is increasingly relevant in addressing the challenges of the digital era based on research conducted by KPID West Java.” 

    Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma Wahdiniwaty, Dra., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for the collaboration between the Faculty of Postgraduate and KPID West Java. According to her, synergy between academia and broadcasting regulators is a strategic step toward strengthening the quality of higher education, particularly in developing studies in communication, media, and broadcasting that are relevant to contemporary developments.

    The Chair of KPID West Java, Dr. Adiyana Slamet, S.IP., M.Si., in his remarks, which also officially opened the collaboration event and public lecture, emphasized the importance of cooperation between broadcasting regulators and universities in building a healthy, high-quality information ecosystem that serves the public interest. According to him, the rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed the broadcasting landscape, making it essential to strengthen media literacy, regulatory understanding, and public resilience in responding to the overwhelming flow of information.

    The event was attended by 40 participants, consisting of students from the Master’s Programs in Communication Studies, Management, Design, and Information Systems. The participation of students from these diverse academic backgrounds reflected the strong enthusiasm of the UNIKOM postgraduate academic community to deepen their understanding of the broadcasting industry, media literacy, and communication challenges in the digital era.

    The signing of the MoA and IA marked an important milestone in the development of collaborative programs between the two institutions. Through this partnership, KPID West Java and the Faculty of Postgraduate are committed to developing various initiatives in education, research, community service, human resource capacity building, and media and broadcasting literacy programs that benefit the wider community.

    Following the signing ceremony, the event continued with a public lecture featuring two speakers from KPID West Java. In her presentation, Dr. Almadina delivered a session entitled Broadcasting from a Psychological Perspective, highlighting the influence of media and broadcasting on people’s behavior, mindset, and psychological well-being. She explained that in today’s digital era, society faces numerous challenges, including information overload, the spread of misinformation, opinion polarization, and information manipulation, all of which can affect the psychological well-being of both individuals and communities. Therefore, media literacy and critical thinking skills are essential competencies for the younger generation. Her presentation reinforced the importance of integrating psychological perspectives into modern broadcasting studies.

    Meanwhile, Dr. Lukman Munawar Fauzi presented a session entitled Broadcasting from the Pancagatra Perspective, which examined the strategic role of broadcasting in strengthening national resilience through five key dimensions: ideology, politics, economics, society, and culture. According to him, broadcasting media plays a crucial role in shaping national character, reinforcing national values, and maintaining social cohesion amid the rapid flow of global information. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening broadcasting regulations and promoting multi-stakeholder collaboration to create a healthy, productive, and public-interest-oriented information environment.

    Serving as the moderator, the Head of the Master’s Program in Information Systems, Sri Supatmi, S.Kom., M.T., D.Sc., concluded the public lecture by stating, “UNIKOM and KPID West Java are committed to strengthening collaboration in the development of education, research, and media literacy. This event represents a manifestation of our partnership, one that extends beyond the signing of agreements and is realized through academic programs that benefit both students and the wider community.”

    The event was officially closed by Riska Lapiani Huki, S.Kom., a student of the Master’s Program in Communication Studies who served as the Master of Ceremonies. She invited the entire KPID West Java delegation, the Dean, heads of study programs, academic staff, and students to participate in a group photo for documentation. (Directorate of Hms & Pro)

    Abstract

    The process of converting analog files into digital files in the archiving process is a routine activity that needs to have appropriate procedures and is accompanied by a study of the profits and risks that accompany the process. The method of the research to solve this problem was by risk management approach refer to ISO/TR 18128 about risk assessment of recording data and ISO 22301 about Business Continuity Management (BCM). Through risk management, risk analysis review is conducted which determines the risk identification, risk assessment, risk evaluation, and strategies to enhance the ability to handle the digitization process. In other hands, business continuity management provides the potential benefit from the digitization process and guarantee of maintaining a reliable system. The companies to be observed are University, Government, and Financial Company (FC). The discussions are about the risk treatment with the strategy to reduce it and the comparison of maturity BCM from every companies. The result explains the readiest company in implementing analog to digital archiving process and the most company who has more mature in developing Business Continuity Management. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

    Abstract:

    The purpose of this research is to build an intelligent system of control and monitoring of electrical energy at home and to find out the amount of efficiency that can be achieved after implementing a control and monitoring system of daily electrical energy at home. The use of electrical at home is a waste of energy which of course is often not realized by the users. Even though, this is caused by the many uses of electronic devices at home that must be used and live continuously, for example: the use of lights, water heater, Air Conditioners (AC) and others. Although these devices can be set up and work automatically, automatic devices only rely on time and condition variables. To save energy more efficient, homes need to be equipped with intelligent systems that can be control and turn on electronic devices only when needed. The method that will be applied in this research is by combining fuzzy logic and the integration of Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Besides that, this system will be built using the concept of IoT (Internet of Things). The result of this research is produced an IoT device for intelligent Controlling and Monitoring of Electrical Energy with fuzzy logic and ANN methods. This current research is developing an ESP32-based smart device for the internet of things that can be used to monitor and control electrical energy using fuzzy logic and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) methods. However, current research has found that this device can improve energy consumption at home by 28-37%. © 2025 Author(s).

    UNIKOM Doctoral Program in Management Empowers Sukasari Coffee Farmers to Meet SNI Standards and Reach Global Market

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – As competition continues to increase in the digital era, Cijerah Market is trying to adapt with new marketing strategies. One concrete step was carried out through a Smartphone Photography Training held at the Temporary Merchant Shelter (TPPS), CTC Building on August 5-6, 2025. This activity was part of the Community Service Program (PKM) BIMA Kemdiktisaintek under the 2025 Community Empowerment Partnership scheme, with Dr. Yully Ambarsih Ekawardhani, M.Sn., as the chairperson, and supported by Dr. Taufan Hidayatullah, M.Ds., from the Master of Design Study Program, and Ivan Kurniawan, M.Ds., a UNIKOM Graphic Design lecturer. The activity partner is APPETRA (Association of Traditional Market Traders) of Bandung City, which from the beginning has provided an overview of the condition of Cijerah Market, which has been established since 1982 and is now inhabited by the second to third generation of traders.

    According to Dr. Yully, the main objective of the training was to improve the quality of product photos so that merchants could make better use of social media for promotion. “Good photos not only show the product, but also evoke the emotions of buyers and highlight the uniqueness of the products,” she explained.

    The Head of the Master of Design Study Program, Dr. Taufan Hidayatullah, M.Ds., opened the training activity together with the Head of APPETRA Bandung City, H. Muslim Arief, and the Director of PT Mitra Karya Prospekta (MKP), Nurcholis Hakim. A total of 23 Cijerah Market traders, both from the second generation and Generation Z who are now continuing the family business, participated in the activity with great enthusiasm.

    In the first session, Dr. Yully presented material on the importance of persuasive communication to strengthen product image in the digital space. She emphasized the use of effective promotional language so that the message reaches and attracts the attention of potential buyers.

    The next session was led by Ivan Kurniawan, M.Ds., who equipped participants with technical photography skills using smartphone cameras. Participants were taught how to utilize simple features such as focus settings, lighting, and composition. Participants also practiced making simple lightboxes from used cardboard and makeshift lamps, allowing them to produce professional-quality product photos at minimal cost.

    To conclude, participants were asked to produce photos of their merchandise. The works were then curated to select the best results. Through this PKM activity, Cijerah Market merchants not only gained new skills but also became better prepared to face marketing challenges in the digital era. With the support of higher-quality product photography, they are optimistic about expanding their market reach and enhancing their competitiveness in the face of modern competition.
