    UNIKOM Doctoral Program in Management Empowers Sukasari Coffee Farmers to Meet SNI Standards and Reach Global Market

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – As competition continues to increase in the digital era, Cijerah Market is trying to adapt with new marketing strategies. One concrete step was carried out through a Smartphone Photography Training held at the Temporary Merchant Shelter (TPPS), CTC Building on August 5-6, 2025. This activity was part of the Community Service Program (PKM) BIMA Kemdiktisaintek under the 2025 Community Empowerment Partnership scheme, with Dr. Yully Ambarsih Ekawardhani, M.Sn., as the chairperson, and supported by Dr. Taufan Hidayatullah, M.Ds., from the Master of Design Study Program, and Ivan Kurniawan, M.Ds., a UNIKOM Graphic Design lecturer. The activity partner is APPETRA (Association of Traditional Market Traders) of Bandung City, which from the beginning has provided an overview of the condition of Cijerah Market, which has been established since 1982 and is now inhabited by the second to third generation of traders.

    According to Dr. Yully, the main objective of the training was to improve the quality of product photos so that merchants could make better use of social media for promotion. “Good photos not only show the product, but also evoke the emotions of buyers and highlight the uniqueness of the products,” she explained.

    The Head of the Master of Design Study Program, Dr. Taufan Hidayatullah, M.Ds., opened the training activity together with the Head of APPETRA Bandung City, H. Muslim Arief, and the Director of PT Mitra Karya Prospekta (MKP), Nurcholis Hakim. A total of 23 Cijerah Market traders, both from the second generation and Generation Z who are now continuing the family business, participated in the activity with great enthusiasm.

    In the first session, Dr. Yully presented material on the importance of persuasive communication to strengthen product image in the digital space. She emphasized the use of effective promotional language so that the message reaches and attracts the attention of potential buyers.

    The next session was led by Ivan Kurniawan, M.Ds., who equipped participants with technical photography skills using smartphone cameras. Participants were taught how to utilize simple features such as focus settings, lighting, and composition. Participants also practiced making simple lightboxes from used cardboard and makeshift lamps, allowing them to produce professional-quality product photos at minimal cost.

    To conclude, participants were asked to produce photos of their merchandise. The works were then curated to select the best results. Through this PKM activity, Cijerah Market merchants not only gained new skills but also became better prepared to face marketing challenges in the digital era. With the support of higher-quality product photography, they are optimistic about expanding their market reach and enhancing their competitiveness in the face of modern competition.     Bandung, UNIKOM – STIE Bisnis Internasional Indonesia (STIE BII) once again held a Studium Generale with the theme “Navigating the Digital Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges for Virtual Branding and Supply Chains.” The event, held at the STIE BII Campus in Bekasi Regency, featured various academic experts and practitioners discussing the challenges and opportunities in virtual branding and digital-based supply chains.

    Prof. Dr. Ir. H. M. Yani Syafei, M.T., CSBA., Head of STIE BII, served as one of the featured speakers. In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of utilizing technology to support supply chain efficiency and build strong digital branding strategies. He emphasized that digitalization in the supply chain can enhance transparency, optimize operations, and accelerate the distribution of goods and services in the era of globalization.

    Furthermore, the event featured Abdisamad Abdirahman Omar, Ph.D., Director of the African Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies (AIMS) Somalia, who is also a lecturer at the University of Hargeisa, Somalia, and a researcher at Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University, Turkey. In his session, he discussed how technological developments such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain have transformed the global supply chain landscape. He stated that these technologies provide greater transparency in the distribution flow of goods and expedite logistics processes through more accurate data-driven systems.

    Moreover, Abdisamad reviewed the challenges in virtual branding, particularly for businesses seeking to build customer trust in the digital realm. He stressed that a strong brand image must be built through effective digital communication strategies, including the use of social media, data-driven marketing, and personalized customer experiences.

    Participants attending the event came from various academic and industrial backgrounds, all interested in understanding how digital transformation can assist them in facing global competition. The activity also benefited participants by providing e-certificates, networking opportunities, and new insights into digital branding and technology-based supply chains.

    Through this event, STIE BII further strengthens its position as an institution committed to developing academic and industrial understanding of the challenges of digitalization. This Studium Generale served not only as a forum for scientific discussion but also opened opportunities for collaboration between academics, students, and industry players to create innovative solutions for the digital era.

    Bandung, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in collaboration with Universitas Kuningan (UNIKU), held an International Community Service and Social Responsibility event themed “The Implementation of IT-Based Management Science in Improving the Performance of MSME” on September 26, 2024. Taking place at the Sindangjawa Meeting Hall, Sindangjawa Village, Kuningan Regency, this event served as a platform for academic and practical discussions aimed at optimizing the application of technology-based management science to enhance the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

    The event featured Prof. Dr. Ir. H. M. Yani Syafei, M.T., CSBA., Head of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at UNIKOM, as one of the keynote speakers. In his presentation, he emphasized that the implementation of information technology in MSME management is key to improving operational efficiency, ensuring more accurate decision-making, and expanding market access. According to him, MSMEs that successfully adopt technology will be better prepared to face global competition and shifting economic dynamics.

    Furthermore, the event presented Abdisamad Abdirahman Omar, Ph.D., Director of the African Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies (AIMS) Somalia, who is also a lecturer at the University of Hargeisa, Somalia, and a researcher at Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University, Turkey.     Also in attendance was Dr. Hj. Lili Karmela Fitriani, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UNIKU, who provided an academic perspective on the importance of synergy between the education sector and the industry to advance the MSME sector. She stressed that universities play a strategic role in providing mentorship and education to MSME practitioners, enabling them to become digitally literate and capable of maximizing technology usage.

    This activity was not only a forum for knowledge sharing but also opened opportunities for collaboration between academics, students, and industry players to develop more effective MSME digitalization strategies. Participants also benefited from networking opportunities, new experiences in the application of IT-based management science, and e-certificates as a token of appreciation for their participation.

    Through this event, UNIKOM and UNIKU reaffirmed their roles in driving technology-based innovation to support MSME development. It is hoped that the synergy between academics and practitioners will continue, creating concrete solutions to strengthen the MSME sector in Indonesia.
