    UNIKOM’s Doctoral Program in Management Science Produces Two New Doctors, Strengthening Scientific Contributions in the Field of Management

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — In August 2026, the Doctoral Program in Management Science, Faculty of Postgraduate, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), once again achieved academic success and produced two new doctors through the success of Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., and Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si. Both were declared graduates after defending their dissertations before the Promoter Team and the Examining Team. The Doctoral Promotion Defense for Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si., participated in the defense on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Both defenses were led directly by the Rector of UNIKOM, Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as Promoter and Chair of the Doctoral Promotion Defense.

    Dr. Windi Novianti Examines Generation Z Investment Decisions

    During her dissertation defense, Dr. Windi presented her dissertation entitled “Keputusan Investasi Gen Z Melalui Bias Perilaku: Pendekatan Keuangan Keperilakuan dalam Konteks Paparan Media Sosial, Literasi Keuangan, dan Ekspektasi Keuntungan (Survey pada Mahasiswa Perguruan Tinggi yang Memiliki Galeri Investasi di Wilayah Jawa Barat)” (Gen Z Investment Decisions Through Behavioral Bias: A Behavioral Finance Approach in the Context of Social Media Exposure, Financial Literacy, and Profit Expectations (Survey of University Students with Investment Galleries in West Java)). The topic focused on Generation Z’s investment decision-making behavior, using a behavioral finance approach that considered social media exposure, financial literacy, and profit expectations.

    Dr. Windi was supervised by Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as her Promoter, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Riyanto, S.T., M.T., CSBA., as her Co-Promoter. To defend her research, she presented her dissertation briefly before facing questions and feedback from the examining panel, which included Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Sc., Prof. Dr. H. Nugraha, S.E., Ak., M.Sc., CA, CPA., CFP, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yoyok Prasetyo, S.T., M.Sy., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isniar Budiarti, S.E., M.Sc. After going through a series of evaluations, she was declared to have passed the Doctoral Promotion Examination. In this doctoral promotion defense, Dr. Windi was recorded as the 4th Doctor in the Doctoral Program in Management, Faculty of Postgraduate, UNIKOM.

    On this occasion, Dr. Windi expressed her gratitude for successfully completing her doctoral education at UNIKOM. Her academic journey at UNIKOM began with her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Management, and then continued her doctoral education at the Doctoral Program in Management. Currently, Dr. Windi also serves as a permanent lecturer at UNIKOM. “Alhamdulillah, this is the culmination of my entire study program. The process was extraordinary, overcoming various challenges, until I finally achieved the highest level of education, a doctoral degree,” she said. She considers the hybrid learning system at UNIKOM to be a convenience during her studies, especially for students residing outside Bandung.

    Dr. Yadi Maryadi Studies Higher Education Performance in the Digital Era

    In the same month, the Doctoral Program in Management Science held another Doctoral Promotion Defense. On that occasion, Dr. Yadi defended his dissertation entitled “Model Kinerja Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Berbasis Kepemimpinan Digital dan Sistem Informasi Manajemen Melalui Budaya Organisasi Sebagai Variabel Mediasi di Lingkungan LLDIKTI Wilayah II” (A Performance Model of Private Higher Education Institutions Based on Digital Leadership and Management Information Systems Through Organizational Culture as a Mediating Variable in the LLDIKTI Region II Environment). Dr. Yadi’s dissertation examined the performance model of private higher education institutions, highlighting digital leadership and management information systems and positioning organizational culture as a mediating variable.

    During the defense, Dr. Yadi was examined by Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., SE., M.Sc., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman S. Soegoto, MBA., Dr. Elvera, SE, M.Sc., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deden Abdul Wahab Sya’roni, Ir., M.Sc. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., as Promoter, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isniar Budiarti, SE., M.Si., as Co-Promoter. After presenting his dissertation and answering various questions and responses from the Examining Team and Promoter Team, Dr. Yadi was declared to have passed the Doctoral Promotion Defense. He became the 5th Doctor in the Doctoral Program in Management Science, Faculty of Postgraduate, UNIKOM.

    On this occasion, Dr. Yadi expressed his gratitude for the smooth running of the Doctoral Promotion, which was the culmination of his academic journey. He expressed his appreciation to the UNIKOM Rector, leaders, lecturers, promoters, and all parties who provided support, facilities, prayers, and guidance throughout his studies. He stated that the hybrid learning system at UNIKOM facilitates the ease of attending both online and offline lectures, especially since he is from Pagar Alam. He hopes the knowledge gained will benefit himself, his family, society, nation, and state, and encourages his fellow DIM Batch 1 colleagues to quickly complete their studies and earn doctorates together.

    In his dissertation, Dr. Yadi researched a performance model for private higher education institutions based on digital leadership and management information systems, with organizational culture as a mediating variable for the performance of private higher education institutions in LLDIKTI Region II. He chose this topic because it is relevant to the ongoing digital transformation process in LLDIKTI Region II, with the hope that the research results can contribute to improving the performance of private higher education institutions.

    Two Dissertations, Two Perspectives to Address Contemporary Management Challenges

    The success of Dr. Windi and Dr. Yadi demonstrates the diversity of issues explored through doctoral studies in the Doctoral Program in Management UNIKOM.

    Dr. Windi presented a study on Generation Z investment decisions and behavioral finance, while Dr. Yadi examined the performance of private universities in the context of digital leadership, management information systems, and organizational culture. These two themes have different contexts, but both stem from evolving management issues amidst changes in the organizational and societal environment. This momentum also serves as part of the academic development journey of the Doctoral Program in Management at the Faculty of Postgraduate UNIKOM. With the addition of two new doctors, UNIKOM continues to encourage the development of academics with scientific capacity and the ability to produce research-based studies.

    UNIKOM Commends the Achievements of Two New Doctorates

    The Doctoral Promotion not only marks the final stage of the academic journey, but also serves as a significant milestone for their families, promoters, examiners, and the academic community who have supported their doctoral education.

    After being declared successful, the two new doctors received their Certificates of Passing the Doctoral Promotion and participated in a group photo session with the Promoter Team, the Examiners Team, and their families. The event concluded with the presentation of their impressions, messages, and hopes from the promoters, as well as expressions of gratitude from each of the new doctors.

    Prof. 3. Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., expressed his gratitude and pride for the successful Doctoral Promotion in Management, attended by Dr. Windi and Dr. Yadi. Both were declared successful in completing all academic stages, from study, research, and dissertation, to closed examinations, and open examinations, as part of the academic achievements in UNIKOM’s Doctoral Program in Management. This success is a source of pride for UNIKOM and demonstrates the students’ commitment and perseverance in completing their doctoral studies. Prof. Eddy hopes that the achievements of these two doctors will inspire and motivate other students in the Doctoral Program in Management Science who are currently working on their dissertations to quickly complete their studies and follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

    According to Prof. Eddy, the prospective doctors’ study journeys prove that distance and busy schedules are not obstacles to achieving a doctoral degree. UNIKOM’s hybrid learning system facilitates students, especially those from outside the region, to attend lectures, receive guidance, and communicate effectively with their supervisors and the examining team. The use of digital technology is part of UNIKOM’s efforts to provide an educational process that is adaptive, flexible, and relevant to current developments. Prof. Eddy also congratulated Dr. Windi Novianti, S.E., M.M., and Dr. Yadi Maryadi, S.E., M.Si., on this achievement and expressed his hope that the knowledge and research findings gained during their doctoral studies will make a contribution to the development of science, the institution, and society.

    Six Academic Programs Within the UNIKOM Faculty of Postgraduate Strengthen Their Strategic Direction in the Era of Artificial Intelligence Through a VMTS Workshop

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – As a continuation of the series of Workshops on the Socialization of the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMTS) of the Faculty of Postgraduate of the Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) on August 14, 2026, the event continued with Parallel Sessions. These sessions were held in discussion rooms to present, explore in depth, and translate the Faculty of Postgraduate’s VMTS strategic direction into the context of each study program’s development, particularly in light of the dynamic advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

    This activity also served as a crucial component of the UNIKOM Faculty of Postgraduate’s VMTS Socialization Workshop series. After participants had previously attended a presentation on the Faculty of Postgraduate’s VMTS and gained perspectives from external stakeholders, the discussion was then deepened through a discussion forum at the study program level. Through these parallel sessions, each study program is expected to identify challenges, opportunities, and development strategies that align with the Faculty’s strategic direction and are responsive to technological advancements and future needs.

    The first parallel session involved the Doctoral Program in Management Science (DIM) and the Doctoral Program in Information Systems (DSI). The Doctoral Program in Management Science conducted a VMTS presentation and discussion session with external speakers, led by the Chair of the Doctoral Program in Management Science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isniar Budiarti, S.E., M.Si. Meanwhile, the Doctoral Program in Information Systems held a similar session in Room DSI 12.011, led by the Chair of the Doctoral Program in Information Systems, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Nursikuwagus, S.T., M.T., M.M., along with external speakers.

    The discussion format, which incorporated external perspectives, provided an opportunity for each program to re-examine the direction of VMTS from a broader perspective. The forum also served as part of an effort to strengthen the connection between academic development and the dynamics of the external environment.

    Four Master’s Programs Continue to Strengthen VMTS

    The series of parallel sessions also continued with the participation of four master’s programs: the Master of Management (MM), Master of Design (M.Ds), Master of Information Systems, and Master of Communication Science (MIK).

    In the Master of Management program, the VMTS presentation and discussion were led by the Chair of the Master of Management Program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Deden A. Wahab Sya’roni, M.Si., along with an external speaker.

    Additionally, the Master of Design program held a VMTS information session and discussion with external speakers, students, and alumni, led by the Chair of the Master of Design program, Dr. Taufan Hidayatullah, S.Sn., M.Ds. The session covered discussions regarding the cascading process of VMTS development aligned with the Vision and Mission of the University, the Faculty, and the program.

    Meanwhile, the Master’s Program in Information Systems held a VMTS information session and discussion led by the Chair of the Master’s Program in Information Systems, Sri Supatmi, M.T., D.Sc.

    The Master’s Program in Communication Science conducted an information session on Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMTS) as well as a discussion with experts and academics in the field of Communication Science. The event featured a number of prominent figures, including the Chair of the Association of Higher Education in Communication Studies (ASPIKOM), Dr. Hj. Ani Yuningsih, Dra., M.Si.; the Chair of the Regional Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctoral Fellowship Forum (FORSILADI), Dr. Imam Jahrudin Priyanto, Drs., M.Hum. The West Java Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID Jabar), represented by the Vice Chair of KPID Jabar, Dr. Almadina Rakhmaniar, S.Psi., M.I.Kom., as well as the Association of Doctors of Communication Science (IDIK), represented by Dr. Eki Baihaki, M.Si., participated in a hybrid format.

    The event was led by the Chair of the UNIKOM Master’s Program in Communication Studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desayu Eka Surya, M.Si., CICS., and was attended by the core faculty of the Master’s Program in Communication Science, including Dr. Rismawaty Rais, S.Sos., M.Si., and Dr. Olih Solihin, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., as well as students.

    The discussion generated a variety of inputs, evaluations, and perspectives from experts, faculty members, students, alumni, and partners, serving as crucial material for refining and formulating the VMTS of the Master’s Program in Communication Science at UNIKOM’s Faculty of Postgraduate, to ensure it remains relevant to academic developments, societal needs, and the challenges of the communication field in the digital age.

    On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desayu stated that all feedback and evaluation results presented during the forum would be compiled and reviewed collectively as input for drafting the VMTS of the Master’s Program in Communication Science. “The valuable input from all of you regarding the formulation of this program’s vision and mission is of great significance to the MIK Program. Moreover, as a newly established program at a university that prioritizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), this is something we cannot avoid in today’s era,” she explained. He also added that advancements in digital technology and AI are among the aspects that need to be integrated into educational development at UNIKOM. The implementation of these technologies has already been incorporated into the learning process, including through several courses in the Master’s Program in Communication Science that focus on digital communication—such as Media and Audience Content Analysis, Digital PR, Social Network Analysis, and others. According to him, strengthening these aspects of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a crucial part of preparing Master’s in Communication Science graduates who are adaptable, competent, and capable of navigating the dynamics of the communications industry in the era of digital transformation.

    From Outreach to Strengthening Program Strategies

    Holding parallel sessions allowed for more targeted discussions of the VMTS based on the characteristics and needs of each academic program. The presence of external speakers also broadened the scope of dialogue, ensuring that the outreach process went beyond merely presenting documents or strategic directions and instead served as a forum for building a shared understanding.

    Amid the rapid development of AI, which is increasingly influencing various academic fields and the professional world, strengthening the VMTS has become essential for universities to ensure their academic development remains relevant to the changing environment. Through this forum, the UNIKOM Faculty of Postgraduate brought together internal and external perspectives as part of the process to strengthen the direction of its academic programs. This approach is expected to support the development of graduate education that is adaptive to technological changes while remaining focused on strengthening academic excellence.

    The holding of parallel sessions underscored that accelerating VMTS in the era of Artificial Intelligence requires collaboration and dialogue across different perspectives. Through the involvement of study programs and external parties, UNIKOM’s Faculty of Postgraduate continues to promote the strengthening of strategic directions that are relevant to advancements in science, technology, and the needs of the external environment.     UNIKOM Faculty of Postgraduate Partners with 15 Strategic Stakeholders to Strengthen Education Direction in the Artificial Intelligence Era through VMTS Workshop

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — To strengthen the direction of higher education development in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Postgraduate Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) held a Workshop on the Socialization of Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMTS) on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Hybrid Classroom, 12th Floor, UNIKOM Smart Building. Carrying the theme “Challenges in Accelerating VMTS in the Artificial Intelligence Era,” the workshop was part of the process of aligning the VMTS of the University, Postgraduate, and Study Programs within the Postgraduate UNIKOM. The forum also served as a platform to bring together the academic community and external stakeholders to obtain input for the development of education, research, and community service.

    The workshop was attended by UNIKOM leaders, including Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Umi Narimawati, S.E., M.Si.; Vice Rector II for Resources, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Riyanto, S.T., M.T., CSBA.; Vice Rector III for Research, Innovation, and Accreditation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Herman S. Soegoto, M.B.A.; and Deputy Vice Rector IV, Adam Mukharil Bachtiar, S.Kom., M.T., Ph.D. Also in attendance were the Dean of the Postgraduate, Heads of Study Programs, lecturers, education personnel, and students within the UNIKOM Postgraduate, as well as partners from industry, business, higher education institutions, professional associations, alumni, and various related institutions.

    The Workshop Organizing Committee Chair and Head of the Doctoral Study Program in Information Systems, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Nursikuwagus, S.T., M.T., M.M., explained in his report that the workshop represented the finalization stage of the work carried out by the Dean and the Heads of Doctoral and Master’s Study Programs within the Postgraduate. The process had been conducted through an extensive series of discussions and several faculty meetings. He further explained that the process of aligning the VMTS could not be separated from UNIKOM’s development direction, which increasingly takes into account advancements in AI technology.

    In line with this, the Dean of the UNIKOM Postgraduate, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma Wahdiniwaty, Dra., M.Si., explained in her remarks that the workshop served as an important momentum to ensure continuity among the VMTS of the University, Postgraduate, and Study Programs.

    “As UNIKOM is making changes to its Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMTS), the Postgraduate is also developing its own Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives, which will subsequently serve as the basis for the Study Programs in developing their respective VMTS. This will establish alignment among the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives of the University, Faculty, and Study Programs within the Postgraduate UNIKOM,” she explained.

    According to her, the alignment process was conducted in two stages. The first stage consisted of a presentation of the University’s and Postgraduate’s VMTS, while the next stage continued through parallel sessions held by each Study Program.

    Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma stated that six Study Programs within the Postgraduate were involved in the process: the Doctoral Study Program in Management Science, Doctoral Study Program in Information Systems, Master’s Study Program in Management, Master’s Study Program in Design, Master’s Study Program in Information Systems, and Master’s Study Program in Communication Science.

    She also explained that external stakeholders were deliberately invited to ensure that the VMTS being developed could be aligned with current needs.

    “We deliberately invited stakeholders so that the VMTS that has been developed can be adjusted to existing needs. The internal participation in the workshop included university leaders, lecturers and education personnel within the Postgraduate, as well as students. Meanwhile, the external stakeholders participating in the workshop came from industry and business sectors, partner universities, alumni, and professional associations,” she said.

    She also expressed her hope that collaboration with partners could continue to be expanded through various activities, including guest lectures, visiting lecturers, research collaborations, research support, and community service programs.

    Meanwhile, Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs of UNIKOM, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., representing UNIKOM Rector Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., in her opening remarks emphasized the importance of all Faculties and Study Programs adapting to changes in the University’s vision, which incorporates AI and digital competencies.

    Prof. Umi explained that changes to the University-level vision must automatically be translated into the development direction of Faculties and Study Programs.

    “All Faculties and all Study Programs must work toward the University’s Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives, which incorporate AI and digital elements,” Prof. Umi stated.

    According to Prof. Umi, the involvement of various stakeholders in the workshop was important because their input would become part of the process of developing education and curricula. She also stated that UNIKOM had previously begun incorporating AI and digital competencies into curriculum development.

    Furthermore, the VMTS of the Postgraduate would be adopted and translated into action by the Study Programs within the Postgraduate.

    “Ultimately, where does it lead? To the curriculum. Everything must refer to the Vision, Mission, and Goals so that the Postgraduate profile established by the Postgraduate Study Programs can be achieved,” she emphasized.

    Thus, the VMTS alignment process does not stop at the preparation of strategic documents but is directed toward implementation through curricula and the achievement of relevant graduate profiles.

    One of the key agendas of the workshop was the signing of cooperation agreements between Faculties and Study Programs within the UNIKOM Graduate School and their partners. The agreements took the form of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Graduate School and its partners, as well as Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) between Study Programs and their respective partners. The collaborations involved several Doctoral and Master’s Study Programs, including the Doctoral Study Program in Information Systems, Doctoral Study Program in Management Science, Master’s Study Program in Management, Master’s Study Program in Design, and Master’s Study Program in Communication Science.

    The Vice Chair of the Organizing Committee and Person in Charge of the workshop, as well as Head of the Master’s Study Program in Communication Science at UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desayu Eka Surya, M.Si., CICS., stated that 15 partners signed MoUs with the Graduate School and MoAs with Study Programs within the Graduate School. The partners included PT 4nesia Digital Solution, PT Metro Smart Technology, Perkumpulan Keamanan dan Keselamatan Indonesia (KAMSELINDO), YARSI Hospital, PT Dekatama Centra, Institut Agama Islam As-Syifa, Perumda Air Minum Tirta Patriot, PT Tajir Berkah Sinergi, PT Sanggar Indah Group, Aliansi Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis Swasta Indonesia, PT Primega Saniyya Lestari, Java Robotika Teknologi, CV Jamise Kreativa Indonesia, PT Mutiara Packaging, TVRI Bandung, Janavalla Hotel Bandung, PT Mozza Travel, and the Journal of Social Media and Message, Universitas Islam Riau.

    The implementation of the cooperation agreements also involved partners participating online. One of them was PT Tajir Berkah Sinergi, which conducted the signing of its MoU and MoA online.

    The series of activities continued with a presentation of the VMTS of the UNIKOM Postgraduate and external perspectives. The presentation was delivered by the Dean of the Postgraduate UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma Wahdiniwaty, Dra., M.Si., together with external speakers. The discussion served as an important part of the workshop, as developments in Artificial Intelligence are bringing increasingly broad changes to education, research, competency requirements, and relationships between higher education institutions, industry, and society.

    To conclude the first session of the workshop, all participants and UNIKOM leaders took a group photograph on the 15th Floor of the UNIKOM Smart Building. The session was also attended by UNIKOM Rector, Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. H. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T.

    The second session was held after the Ishoma break and consisted of parallel sessions attended by the six Study Programs within the Postgraduate UNIKOM. The six Study Programs were the Doctoral Study Program in Management Science, Doctoral Study Program in Information Systems, Master’s Study Program in Management, Master’s Study Program in Design, Master’s Study Program in Information Systems, and Master’s Study Program in Communication Science.

    Through the workshop series, the Postgraduate UNIKOM reaffirmed the importance of aligning its Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives with the challenges posed by technological transformation. Strengthening collaboration with partners and engaging various stakeholders are expected to become strategic steps in supporting the development of higher education that is adaptive to changes in the Artificial Intelligence era.     BANDUNG, UNIKOM — Saturday, August 8, 2026, the Master’s Program in Information Systems at the Faculty of Post Graduate of the Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) sought to strengthen students’ competencies in building innovative, adaptive, and sustainable digital businesses through the webinar “Building Sustainable Digital Businesses through Synergy Among Governance, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.” The event, which focused on the theme “Implementation of the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models Course,” was organized as part of the learning activities for the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course. The webinar was attended by 157 participants from various universities, including students, alumni, members of the public, and Micro and Small Business (MSB) owners.

    The event’s Executive Chair, Wita Fajriah, a Master’s student in Information Systems, stated in her opening remarks that advancements in digital technology have brought about significant changes in the business world. Digitalization presents both opportunities and challenges that require the business world to continuously adapt. “Sustainable digital businesses require not only technology and innovation but also good governance and an entrepreneurial spirit. These three aspects are expected to work in synergy to create businesses that are innovative, adaptive, competitive, and capable of delivering long-term benefits,” she explained.

    Furthermore, the Chair of UNIKOM’s Master’s Program in Information Systems, Sri Supatmi, M.T., D.Sc., emphasized that the webinar’s theme is highly relevant to current global developments. In her view, digital technology is no longer merely a supporting tool but has evolved into a crucial component of business strategy for creating value and competitive advantage. “Sustainable digital business requires more than just technology. We need strong governance, continuous innovation, and an entrepreneurial spirit capable of identifying opportunities and transforming them into valuable solutions and business models,” she explained. She added that through the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course, students are expected not only to understand technological aspects but also to think strategically, create opportunities, build business models, and lead digital transformation.

    On that occasion, the Rector of UNIKOM, Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T., expressed his appreciation for the event, which brought together faculty members, academic programs, students, and the community in a single learning forum. According to him, digital technology is evolving at a rapid pace, so the business world must have the ability to keep up with these changes through creativity and innovation. “Master’s students in Information Systems are certainly expected to develop their creativity and innovation so that the knowledge gained during their master’s studies can be applied, developed, and provide added value to institutions in need,” he stated. Prof. Eddy also noted that webinars serve as an excellent platform to broaden understanding while encouraging students to connect the knowledge acquired during their studies with real-world needs across various institutions.

    Meanwhile, the Dean of the UNIKOM Postgraduate Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rahma Wahdiniwaty, Dra., M.Si., explained that this activity is part of the implementation of the “Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models” course, which employs a team-teaching approach. The course involves the UNIKOM Rector, the Dean of the Graduate School, the Deputy Vice Rector IV, and the Director of Digital Technology & Information Systems Development (PTDSI). “Through this activity, we want to demonstrate that learning about entrepreneurship and digital business does not only take place in a classroom setting but can also be implemented through knowledge and experience-sharing activities,” she explained.

    In line with this, the Director of UNIKOM’s PTDSI and Lecturer in the Master’s Program in Information Systems, Irfan Dwiguna Sumitra, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of human adaptability amid rapid technological advancements. According to him, technology should not be viewed as a factor that replaces humans, but rather as a means to accelerate innovation and generate solutions that meet societal needs. “Technology is no longer a factor that will replace humans, but rather it is about how humans can adapt to technological advancements by continuing to learn and hone their creativity,” he said. He emphasized that the success of technological products whether in the form of applications or business models is largely determined by their ability to address the real needs of society so that they can be utilized optimally.

    The webinar was also part of the celebrations marking UNIKOM’s 26th anniversary. UNIKOM’s First Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., expressed her appreciation to the Graduate School and all parties who initiated the event. She emphasized that the spirit of entrepreneurship is a vital component in the development of higher education and encouraged the younger generation to become an integral part of the UNIKOM ecosystem. “Entrepreneurship is our collective effort to nurture students and prospective students who can thrive and contribute in the future,” she stated.

    The series of activities continued with a presentation moderated by Luthfiyah Sakinah. Three speakers from diverse backgrounds were present to share their experiences and practical perspectives on information technology governance, digital business development, and digital transformation.

    The first speaker, A.S. Antapradja, S.IP., a UNIKOM Master’s student in Information Systems and Head of the Technology Business Unit at PT Sucofindo (Persero), presented on PT Sucofindo’s ICT services in support of information technology governance in Indonesia. His presentation provided an overview of how the utilization of information technology services and solutions can support organizational governance and meet the needs of digital transformation in the industrial sector.

    Next, David Erwinson, S.Kom., M.M., owner of Croccante Chips and an alumnus of the Master’s in Management program at UNIKOM’s Graduate School, shared his experience in building and managing a sustainable digital business. The practical insights he shared gave participants a clear picture of how digital business concepts can be directly applied—from business development to efforts to maintain business sustainability amid technological changes and shifting market demands.

    Meanwhile, the third speaker, Ariep, S.T., M.CAS., Founder of Rumah Komunitas, discussed strategies for building digital businesses and the importance of digital transformation for business sustainability. He encouraged participants to understand that digital transformation is not merely about keeping up with technological advancements, but is a strategic step to enhance competitiveness, expand markets, and create business models that are more adaptive to change.

    These three presentations enriched the participants’ perspectives by offering a combination of information technology governance, practical experience in building businesses, and digital transformation strategies. This aligns with the objectives of the Entrepreneurship and Digital Business Models course, which not only equips students with concepts but also encourages them to understand their real-world applications.

    The final session of the webinar was interactive, featuring a question-and-answer session and discussion between participants and the speakers. The various questions and experiences shared by participants provided a space for exchanging ideas on the challenges of digital business development, technology utilization, governance, and strategies for building businesses capable of surviving and growing sustainably.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — The Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) continues to strengthen its commitment to preparing graduates who can adapt to technological advancements and industry needs through its Digital Business Program. Under the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK), UNIKOM’s Digital Business Program adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates management, marketing, information systems, computer science, data analytics, and digital entrepreneurship.

    UNIKOM Vice Rector III for Research, Innovation, and Accreditation, who also serves as Dean of FTIK, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman S. Soegoto, MBA, explained that the establishment of the Digital Business Program was driven by the need for human resources who not only understand business and management concepts but are also capable of applying digital technology in practice. “Our goal is to educate students to become professionals who understand management principles as well as digital concepts. We integrate management, marketing, digital consumer behavior, data analytics, and information systems into a cohesive whole that students need to build their future careers,” he stated.

    According to him, these characteristics set UNIKOM Digital Business program apart from similar programs. Because it is housed within the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FTIK), students gain a strong foundation in technology alongside a solid understanding of business and marketing. The curriculum is also designed to foster digital technology-based entrepreneurial skills, ensuring students are not only prepared to enter the workforce but also have the capacity to create business opportunities.

    A Four-Year Curriculum: From Fundamentals to Business Projects

    Meanwhile, the Chair of UNIKOM’s Digital Business Program, Bella Hardiyana, S.Kom, M.Kom., Ph.D., explained that the Digital Business bachelor’s program is designed to be completed over four years or eight semesters with a systematic learning progression.

    In the first year, students acquire a foundational understanding of business, management, technology, and related fields. This approach allows students from diverse educational backgrounds to participate in the program without needing prior knowledge in management, business, or programming.

    In the second year, students focus on strengthening their core competencies in Digital Business. Then, in the third year, students have the opportunity to broaden their experience through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, including internships and interdisciplinary learning across programs and universities. “The door to business can open from anywhere. That’s why students are given the opportunity to study in other programs or at other universities through the MBKM program,” explained Bella.

    Meanwhile, the fourth year focuses on developing digital business projects and completing the thesis. With this design, students are guided to produce work and gain practical experience relevant to the field they will pursue after graduation.

    AI as a Learning Partner and Business Catalyst

    As part of UNIKOM’s efforts to develop an “AI Ready” ecosystem, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) has become a key component in Digital Business education. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman emphasized that AI has been integrated into curriculum development and the enhancement of various courses. AI is not merely positioned as course material but also as a tool that students can utilize in their professional and entrepreneurial activities.

    In line with this, Bella, Ph.D., explained that students will be introduced to the application of AI through various areas of study, including Machine Learning, Business Intelligence, and AI for Business. “In the Digital Business program, AI is a friend. We are not at odds with AI. AI is our partner. We want students to be able to utilize AI as an assistant in running a business,” she explained. This approach is expected to enable students not only to understand AI technology conceptually but also to use it to analyze data, understand consumers, improve efficiency, develop marketing strategies, and support business decision-making.

    Enhanced by Practicums, Internships, and Certifications

    To ensure that students’ competencies extend beyond theory, UNIKOM’s Digital Business Program incorporates practicums and hands-on implementation as integral parts of the learning process. Students are encouraged to transform the knowledge gained in the classroom into products, projects, or business models that can be developed in the real world.

    In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in internship programs through the MBKM initiative and enhance their competencies through various collaborations developed by UNIKOM. Support from partnerships with companies such as Google, Cisco, and BNSP also opens opportunities for students to obtain certifications that strengthen their readiness to enter the professional world.

    Collaborations with the industry and these various partners continue to be developed to provide experiences that are increasingly relevant to the needs of the job market and technological advancements.

    Targeting Professional Graduates Who Are Also Digital Entrepreneurs

    UNIKOM’s Digital Business program aims to produce graduates with interdisciplinary skills who can adapt to the dynamics of the digital industry. Graduates are not only prepared to work as professionals but also possess the ability to build and develop technology-based businesses. Potential career paths include digital entrepreneur, business analyst, digital marketer, data/business intelligence specialist, product or business development specialist, as well as various other professions related to business and digital technology.

    However, the primary goal of UNIKOM’s Digital Business program is to produce graduates who can apply business and technological knowledge in real-world contexts. “We want students to not only understand business theory but to actually be able to put it into practice. Even starting small is fine for example, building an online store using AI. A small business can then be developed into a larger one,” said Bella.

    Thus, graduates’ achievements are measured not only by their academic abilities but also by their ability to create, manage, and develop solutions and businesses based on digital technology.

    From Zero to Hero: Toward a Competitive Digital Business

    The establishment of UNIKOM’s Digital Business program is part of the university’s efforts to address the changing needs of the workforce and the development of the digital economy.     Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman encourages prospective students not to hesitate in choosing UNIKOM’s Digital Business program. According to him, the program’s strength lies in the integration of various academic disciplines that have long been developed at UNIKOM.

    Meanwhile, Bella, Ph.D., emphasizes that students from diverse backgrounds can join and thrive through a step-by-step learning process, starting from understanding basic concepts to being able to produce work and build businesses. “Students don’t just learn theory they also engage in hands-on practice. Starting from a point where they know nothing, we guide them until they can create something. The hope is that students can build businesses starting small and growing and be able to compete at the international level,” she concluded.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – The creativity and innovation of Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) students were once again demonstrated through the Student Research Exhibition Week of the Computer Systems and Computer Engineering Study Programs, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK) UNIKOM on July 23rd, 2026, at the 7th Floor Courtyard of UNIKOM. The event served as a platform for students to exhibit various technological works and products developed through research, final projects, and class assignments for the Final Semester Examination of the Even Semester, Academic Year 2025-2026.

    The exhibition featured approximately 50 student projects encompassing diverse themes and technological applications, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT). More than just a showcase, the event illustrated how the knowledge and skills acquired by students in the classroom are translated into technological solutions with the potential to benefit society.

    The Head of the Computer Systems Study Program at UNIKOM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hidayat, S.Kom., M.T., explained that this student exhibition has been held regularly for the past three years, becoming an annual agenda typically organized during the even semester. “We have been running this for the last three years. So, we hold it every year, usually in the even semester. The products exhibited are the results of students’ undergraduate theses, assignments from courses that specifically direct students to create products, as well as the final projects of D3 (Diploma) Computer Engineering students and several other projects,” he explained.

    According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hidayat, there has been a significant evolution in the student projects exhibited each year, both in terms of themes and technology utilization. While previous projects varied more broadly in technological applications, this year’s exhibition saw increased attention on the implementation of AI and IoT. “One of the distinguishing factors each year is the theme developed by the students. Essentially, these products apply what the students have learned. They are capable of applying research in the fields of AI and the Internet of Things,” he stated.

    Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hidayat noted that the application of AI and IoT in student works is not solely aimed at creating technological products, but also at how these technologies can address specific needs and deliver real impact across various sectors of life. “The core idea is that we want students to be able to apply their understanding of AI and the Internet of Things to make an impact on society, whether in education, social sectors, or even healthcare,” he revealed.

    Several projects directly addressed issues closely related to community life. In healthcare, for instance, there were projects utilizing AI or Machine Learning to predict and classify nutritional status, alongside technology developed to assist in detecting heart conditions. Meanwhile, in the environmental sector, students presented the concept of a Smart Bin, an intelligent trash can utilizing IoT technology to monitor the bin’s condition and send alerts when it has reached full capacity. In education, projects featured interactive technological approaches to teach history, soil layers, and human anatomy.

    The diversity of these projects highlights that technological mastery extends beyond technical aspects; it is directed toward generating innovations with practical utility and relevance to societal challenges. One project that garnered notable attention at the exhibition was Smart Parking, an automated parking system prototype developed by students using several IoT components.

    The Smart Parking development team from the Computer Systems program, comprising Salsa Adila Casandra, Rafi Madani, Muhammad Reza Pahlevi, and Mochammad Dava Somadyana, explained that the idea originated from common issues found in parking areas, particularly when drivers struggle to find available parking slots. “Our goal in creating this device is based on the observation that many places, such as malls, have not yet adopted automated parking systems. We often do not know whether there are still parking slots available or not. Therefore, we created an automated parking data system,” expressed Mohamad Rijal.

    In its operation, Smart Parking utilizes an ESP microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, a servo, LEDs, a buzzer, a project board, and jumper wires. The sensors are used to detect vehicles entering and exiting, prompting the system to update the information regarding available parking slots. “When a car enters, the sensor detects it. The display will show the vacant and occupied parking slots. When a vehicle leaves, the system scans again, causing the number of empty and occupied slots to update automatically,” he detailed.

    The prototype was developed over approximately one week as part of the Final Semester Examination assignment for the even semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. Moving forward, the students hope Smart Parking can be further developed and implemented in environments requiring more effective parking management, such as apartments. Expanding beyond mere availability detection, the students have also prepared conceptual developments for a card-based access system. With this system, apartment residents possessing a card would gain controlled access to the parking area.

    For Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hidayat, the myriad of projects displayed at the exhibition represents both a learning process and an initial step toward scaling student innovations to yield broader benefits. “The hope is that these products do not stop here at the exhibition, but can truly be implemented and utilized by the public,” he emphasized.

    The Student Research Exhibition Week simultaneously reinforces FTIK UNIKOM’s commitment to cultivating a culture of innovation and research among its students. Through the process of designing, developing, testing, and presenting products, students are challenged not only to grasp theoretical concepts but also to produce applicable technological solutions. “High school graduates who are looking for a university, especially those interested in AI and the Internet of Things, are welcome to join the UNIKOM Computer Systems Study Program for a Bachelor’s degree. For those seeking a faster educational track, the D3 Computer Engineering Study Program is also available. Together, we learn about AI, IoT, and how these technologies can benefit society,” he concluded.

    Through this exhibition by the Computer Systems and Computer Engineering programs, UNIKOM continues to drive the emergence of a student generation that is not only technologically literate but also fully capable of becoming problem solvers and innovators who deliver AI and IoT-based technologies to meet society’s needs.     “Waste Data, Organized Environment”: UNIKOM’s 2026 Impactful Community Service Program in Coblong Develops a Technology-Based Waste Management Model Toward Zero Waste

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM — In strengthening its commitment to providing higher education that creates a tangible impact on society, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government and the Coblong Subdistrict Government, is implementing the 2026 Impactful Community Service Program or KKN Berdampak. The program is aimed at strengthening waste management while providing students with a learning environment through direct engagement with the community.

    The main focuses of the KKN Berdampak in Coblong Subdistrict include education on waste sorting at the source, community assistance, strengthening waste management governance, technology-based data collection, and the development of a circular economy. Furthermore, the program represents UNIKOM’s contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly sustainable urban development, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and strengthened multi-stakeholder partnerships. As part of the program’s implementation, UNIKOM officially deployed students participating in the KKN Berdampak to Coblong Subdistrict on August 12, 2026. A total of approximately 569 students were involved in directly collaborating with local communities and various government stakeholders in implementing the planned waste management initiatives.

    The PIC and Coordinator of UNIKOM’s KKN Berdampak Dr. Nungki Heriyati, S.S., M.A., explained that the KKN Berdampak is a collaborative initiative between UNIKOM and the West Java Provincial Government designed to connect students’ learning processes with real-world issues in society. “On this occasion, UNIKOM has deployed approximately 569 students to Coblong Subdistrict. The main focus is addressing waste-related issues, particularly in the Coblong Subdistrict area,” explained Dr. Nungki.

    The students will collaborate with urban village authorities, waste management officers, as well as community members at the RW and RT levels. The collaboration is primarily aimed at providing education on waste sorting and management while assisting community members in adopting these practices in a sustainable manner.

    Impactful Community Service as an Implementation of the SDGs

    The waste management initiative, which is a key focus of the Impactful Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak), is directly aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting cleaner, healthier, more organized, and sustainable residential environments, the program supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Education on household waste sorting, waste reduction, material reuse, and the development of a circular economy also aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

    Furthermore, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills and reusing materials are relevant to efforts to minimize environmental impacts and support SDG 13: Climate Action. Meanwhile, the involvement of UNIKOM, the West Java Provincial Government, Coblong Subdistrict, urban villages, neighborhood associations (RT/RW), local communities, and relevant government agencies reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

    Students Learn, Communities Benefit

    UNIKOM Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs and Chair of the 2026 UNIKOM Impactful Community Service Committee, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Narimawati, Dra., S.E., M.Si., emphasized that the Impactful Community Service is part of a structured learning process that has been carefully prepared through student training and field surveys before students are deployed to the community.

    “Students do not only learn in the classroom. Through the KKN Berdampak, they learn to observe real conditions in the field, collaborate with the community, and apply the soft skills they have developed,” said Prof. Umi.

    To ensure that the Community Service activities are implemented in a structured and measurable manner, students are accompanied by Supervising Lecturers (Dosen Pembimbing Lapangan/DPL). UNIKOM has also prepared a digital system to help monitor the activities of students and DPLs in the field. Each student activity will be recorded through the system, including its location, time, type of activity, and implementation documentation. The system is designed to ensure that students carry out activities in accordance with the established programs, while also serving as part of the monitoring and evaluation process.

    From an academic perspective, the KKN Berdampak is also integrated into the learning process through a Semester Credit Unit (SKS) recognition scheme. Dr. Nungki explained that, under the scheme, Community Service activities may be recognized for up to a maximum of 20 SKS, although their implementation is adjusted to the policies and curricula of each study program.

    “The conversion to SKS is approximately a maximum of 20 SKS, but this ultimately depends on each study program. For example, the Management Study Program adopts a 10-SKS scheme, while several study programs that have compulsory courses continue to conduct lectures for one or two courses,” she explained.

    Rooted in Real-World Issues

    The development of UNIKOM’s KKN Berdampak (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak) is based on the identification of issues encountered in the field. Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., a lecturer at UNIKOM’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK) who is involved in the development of the program, explained that the KKN Berdampak is positioned as a social project carried out seriously and systematically, rather than merely as an administrative activity of higher education institutions. “The KKN Berdampak is a social project that we can genuinely undertake with full commitment,” Dr. Agus stated.

    Therefore, the approach adopted does not simply involve bringing solutions from the university to the community. Instead, it begins with identifying the needs of the community through a bottom-up approach.

    In the context of waste management, the issues are mapped into three stages: upstream, intermediate, and downstream. At the upstream level, the primary issue identified is the low level of public awareness regarding waste segregation at the household level. “The major problem lies upstream, particularly in waste segregation. Therefore, the approach we take is persuasive and educational,” Dr. Agus explained.

    This approach is implemented through education, practical examples, community assistance, and appreciation for residents who have begun implementing waste segregation practices.

    Data-Driven Waste Management for a Well-Organized Environment

    To strengthen waste management governance, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) is developing a technology-based approach through a waste data collection system. Segregated waste bins will be equipped with QR-based identification codes that can be linked to a mobile application. The system is designed to connect each waste bin with its corresponding household or owner, allowing waste management activities to be recorded in a more systematic manner.

    Supported by artificial intelligence (AI)-based features, the system is designed to help identify the condition of waste bins, including the volume and characteristics of organic and non-organic waste. The collected data will help waste management personnel determine collection priorities while providing an overview of waste generation in each area. At the neighborhood (RT), community (RW), sub-district, and Environmental Agency (DLH) levels, the data is expected to serve as a basis for determining waste management needs and policies.

    This concept is encapsulated in the spirit of “Data-Driven Waste Management for a Well-Organized Environment.” According to Dr. Agus, a data-based approach is essential to ensure that policies are not formulated merely on the basis of assumptions, but rather on factual conditions in the field. “If we need to add personnel, we have the data. If we need additional infrastructure or waste collection vehicles, we already have operational data,” he explained.

    Turning Waste into a Circular Economy

    UNIKOM’s Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak also incorporates a circular economy approach to waste management. Organic waste has the potential to be processed into maggot feed, while non-organic waste can be channeled through waste banks or repurposed into various useful products. One example being prepared is the utilization of used plastic bottles as plant pots and as part of hydroponic development. This initiative can be integrated with the “Buruan Sae” program in Bandung.

    UNIKOM is also exploring opportunities to utilize technology to support cultivation processes, including technology-based watering and fertilization systems. “The main target is to reduce the amount of waste generated per day in each area, increase public awareness, and ultimately create new benefits. That is what we aim to build, which we call the circular economy,” said Dr. Agus.

    Coblong Sub-District Promotes Consistency Toward Zero Waste

    Head of Coblong Sub-District, Ratna Rahayu Pitriyati, S.STP., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for UNIKOM’s initiative in selecting Coblong Sub-District as one of the locations for the implementation of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak. According to her, waste management is a strategic issue in Bandung that requires collaboration among various stakeholders. UNIKOM’s involvement is expected to strengthen the efforts of the sub-district government, urban village administrations, and local communities in finding more effective waste management solutions.

    “We greatly appreciate UNIKOM for initiating this program, which will undoubtedly provide tremendous contributions and impact,” she said.

    She further noted that collaboration with higher education institutions could serve as an example and encourage other universities to become involved in addressing issues faced by communities. She also called on the public to support the implementation of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata Berdampak. “Let us support this initiative, collaborate, work together, and jointly create a clean, green, and waste-free environment,” she emphasized.

    Furthermore, Coblong Sub-District hopes that the impact of the community service program will continue even after the students have completed the program. Consistency is one of the key outcomes expected, so that waste segregation and management can gradually develop into a community culture.

    “The output we most hope to see is consistency. We hope that there will be changes in waste management practices and that, ultimately, Coblong can become a zero-waste sub-district,” she concluded.

    UNIKOM Develops a Role Model for Environmental Management

    UNIKOM’s commitment to environmental management is not only directed toward the community but also begins within the university itself. Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., explained that UNIKOM is strengthening waste management practices across the campus by providing waste segregation facilities, educational initiatives, and efforts to build awareness and compliance among the academic community.

    Within the UNIKOM campus environment, waste segregation is organized into several categories: organic, non-organic, residual waste, and recyclable materials.

    “UNIKOM must become a role model within its own environment,” said Dr. Agus.

    According to him, behavioral change cannot be achieved through instructions alone. A persuasive and educational approach is necessary to ensure that waste segregation develops from mere awareness into compliance and, ultimately, becomes a habit.

    Collaboration for Sustainable Impact

    The 2026 KKN Berdampak in Coblong Subdistrict demonstrates that higher education institutions can play a strategic role in addressing community issues while supporting the sustainable development agenda. Students become part of the change process, lecturers contribute through mentoring and methodological support, the government provides policy support and regional coordination, while the community serves as the key actor in ensuring the sustainability of the program.

    For students, the Community Service Program provides an opportunity to develop communication, leadership, teamwork, social awareness, problem-solving, and the ability to apply academic knowledge in real-life contexts. Meanwhile, for the government, the collaboration is expected to provide additional resources, ideas, mentoring, and data that can strengthen policy-making processes. For the community, the program is expected to provide knowledge, assistance, management systems, and opportunities to transform waste into valuable resources.

    Ultimately, the success of the KKN Berdampak is not measured solely by the number of students deployed or the number of activities conducted. More importantly, its impact can be seen in changes in community behavior, reductions in waste volume, the availability of data, the growth of the circular economy, and the sustainability of the systems established after the program concludes.

    BANDUNG, UNIKOM – In an effort to enhance the competencies, knowledge, and professionalism of its members in the field of protocol, the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Student Protocol Corps (KPM) of the Universitas Komputer (UNIKOM), Sarvajaya Cabinet for the 2025–2026 term, conducted the KPM Visit and Sharing 2026 event at the West Java Provincial Government Headquarters on Diponegoro Street, Bandung, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Under the theme “PRIME Protocol: Precision, Responsiveness, Integrity, Independence, Ethics” with the tagline “Learn With Precision, Lead With Integrity,” the event served as a learning platform for UNIKOM KPM members to gain a more comprehensive understanding of protocol practices, particularly within a government setting.

    Through presentations, interactive discussions, simulations, and observations of protocol practices, participants had the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into how protocol standards and ethics are applied to support various official government agendas. Also present at the event were the Head of UNIKOM’s Protocol Division, Agung Nugraha, S.I.Kom., and H. Ribert Susanto, S.A.P., M.M., M.I.Kom., M.A.P., from the Protocol Section of the West Java Provincial Secretariat, who served as guest speakers and shared their experiences while carrying out duties in the field of protocol.

    The presence of guest speakers from the government sector provided participants with the opportunity to gain practical insights into work standards, ethics, communication skills, and the various challenges faced by protocol officers in carrying out their duties. Riza Marisa Hermawati, S.S., as a representative of the Protocol Section of the West Java Provincial Government, expressed her appreciation in her remarks for the organization of the KPM Visit and Sharing 2026 event. According to her, such activities are important as a learning space for students to gain a closer understanding of protocol practices. She emphasized that protocol is not only about event procedures and ethics but also requires adaptability, effective communication, attention to detail, and a sense of responsibility in carrying out every task.

    Furthermore, Riza also encouraged the participants to continue learning and to take advantage of every opportunity as part of their personal development. The experience gained during the event is expected to serve as a foundation for UNIKOM KPM members to improve themselves, broaden their horizons, and build a professional and ethical protocol character.

    Moving into the main session, the event continued with a sharing session featuring H. Ribert Susanto, S.A.P., M.M., M.I.Kom., M.A.P., who has been active in the field of protocol for 26 years. The session was conducted in an interactive manner. In addition to explaining the basic concepts and principles of protocol within the government sector, the speaker shared his experiences while carrying out various protocol duties and invited participants to take part in a number of simulations depicting real-life situations in the field.

    Participants gained an understanding of the application of seating arrangements, ceremonial procedures, and forms of respect in accordance with protocol regulations. In addition to receiving theoretical instruction, participants were also given the opportunity to directly practice protocol positioning, the seating arrangement for guests of honor, and how to handle various situations that may arise during official events. This learning method enabled participants to grasp the material more concretely while gaining practical experience relevant to the duties of a protocol officer.

    In his presentation, the speaker explained that a protocol officer—including those in higher education settings must possess and master four key aspects: core skills, protocol ethics, a student protocol officer’s work ethic, and on-site conduct. These four aspects form the essential foundation for developing a protocol officer capable of performing duties professionally, with discipline, and adaptively in response to various conditions that arise during events.

    The speaker also explained that, in general, the duties of a protocol officer encompass the arrangement of “living beings” and “inanimate objects.” In the context of arranging inanimate objects, participants were introduced to various regulations regarding national symbols as stipulated in Law No. 24 of 2009, including the use of the Garuda Pancasila National Emblem, the National Flag, the President’s photograph, and the Vice President’s photograph.

    In addition, participants gained an understanding of the proper placement of national and organizational flags, as well as the use of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya” during official events in accordance with applicable regulations. Meanwhile, regarding the arrangement of “guests,” the speaker explained the classification of guests based on their rank and protocol priority, ranging from state officials and government representatives to community leaders. This understanding serves as the foundation for determining seating arrangements, protocols for showing respect, and welcoming procedures to ensure that events proceed in an orderly manner and in accordance with regulations.

    In addition to theoretical aspects, participants were also equipped with various basic skills required of a protocol officer. The material covered mastery of the event agenda, understanding the flow of activities and venue layouts, determining seating arrangements for guests of honor, as well as the ability to communicate and coordinate with various parties involved in an event. Participants also took part in a simulation of guest seating based on position priority and practiced handling various situations that might arise during the event.

    The participants’ enthusiasm was particularly evident when the session continued with a question-and-answer session, simulations, and an interactive quiz. Participants were given the opportunity to test their understanding while also asking various questions based on experiences and situations they might face as student protocol officers.

    As a token of appreciation, the speakers presented prizes to participants who successfully answered questions and demonstrated the best understanding throughout the session. This interaction fostered a communicative, dynamic, and enjoyable learning atmosphere.

    The series of activities then continued with an interactive evaluation using the Quizizz platform. This evaluation was conducted to measure the extent of the participants’ understanding of the protocol material presented during the event. The quiz took place with great enthusiasm. Participants competed to achieve the best results while re-testing their understanding of the various materials that had been presented.

    As a form of recognition for the participants’ achievements and active participation, KPM UNIKOM presented special awards to those who achieved the highest scores in the evaluation. The entire KPM Visit and Sharing 2026 series concluded with a photo session featuring KPM UNIKOM members alongside officials from the Protocol Division of the West Java Provincial Secretariat. The Visit and Sharing 2026 event serves as a tangible manifestation of KPM UNIKOM’s commitment to developing student protocol personnel who are precise, responsive, principled, independent, and ethical. Through hands-on learning activities with practitioners, UNIKOM KPM members not only gained knowledge of protocol theory and regulations but also acquired practical experience that can be applied in various organizational activities and official events within the university setting. With the motto “Learn With Precision, Lead With Integrity,” KPM UNIKOM is expected to continue to grow as a platform for student development capable of producing a generation of protocol professionals who are professional, adaptable, and uphold high standards of work.     BANDUNG, UNIKOM — The Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) continues to develop innovative learning approaches to ensure that students not only master theory but are also able to apply their knowledge to address various real-world problems in society and the industrial sector. One such innovation was initiated by Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., a lecturer in the Computer Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK) at UNIKOM, a graduate of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science at IPB University and the Valedictorian of the Doctoral Program with a GPA of 3.97 at the Phase III Commencement Ceremony for the 2025/2026 Academic Year at IPB University. Armed with his academic expertise and experience in the field of technology, Dr. Agus initiated the implementation of the Capstone Project as a model for end-of-semester evaluation and an alternative to the written Final Semester Exam (UAS) for students in the Computer Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTIK) at UNIKOM.

    The culmination of the Capstone Project Final Exam took place on Monday, August 3, 2026, in Classroom 4507 on UNIKOM’s Campus I. This event marked the final stage of a project-based learning sequence that students had undertaken throughout the second semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. During the final presentation, each group had the opportunity to present the project they had developed before a panel of judges. The presentation served as a platform for students to explain the problem addressed, user needs, the innovations offered, the technological architecture, the prototype’s functionality, and the potential for future development of the solution.

    After all groups delivered their presentations, the event continued with the judging process based on the established Capstone Project evaluation rubric. The evaluation was comprehensive, taking into account aspects such as the problem statement and user needs, user validation, innovation, the solution’s relevance to the problem, technical architecture, prototype functionality, UI/UX, security, business model, market potential, presentation skills, and the team’s ability to answer questions and execute the project.

    The series of activities then concluded with the announcement of the results and the Capstone Project winners based on the cumulative scores from all assessment components. This mechanism provided students with the experience of not only producing a project but also professionally defending their ideas and developed products before the judges.

    The Capstone Project is implemented in several courses taught by Dr. Agus Mulyana, S.Kom., M.T., namely Internet of Things (IoT) Technology, Android Mobile Programming, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This learning model is designed to integrate the various materials students have studied into a single project that addresses real-world problems in the community or industry.

    According to Dr. Agus, the increasingly rapid changes in the worlds of technology and industry require universities to develop more adaptive learning models. It is not enough for students to be equipped with theory and lab work alone; they also need experience in identifying problems, designing solutions, working in teams, and understanding career and professional paths after completing their education. “A capstone project is a mechanism for synthesizing course material through a mini-project approach based on actual social conditions in the local community or industry,” explained Dr. Agus.

    Through this approach, students are not merely completing assignments to earn grades; rather, they are challenged to identify and understand real-world problems occurring around them. These problems are then formulated into a project that yields solutions grounded in the academic knowledge they have acquired.

    In practice, students use two main approaches: design thinking and computational thinking. Both approaches are used to help students understand problems systematically, define user needs, and develop relevant and implementable solutions.

    Interestingly, student groups in the Capstone Project are not formed like typical assignment groups. They are guided to build a mini-startup, so that each member has roles and responsibilities that mirror a company’s organizational structure. Students can take on roles such as CEO, CTO, CFO, or other positions based on the needs of the team and the project being developed.

    This approach simultaneously builds three key foundations in the students’ learning process: mindset, skillset, and toolset. The mindset component is designed to cultivate a professional and entrepreneurial mindset among students. The skillset is developed through interdisciplinary competencies, including an understanding of social, economic, and technological aspects, as well as the application of artificial intelligence to solve problems. Meanwhile, the toolset emphasizes mastery of various cutting-edge tools and technologies relevant to industry needs.

    This semester, nine teams are developing technological solutions addressing a diverse range of challenges. The AlteraSight team is developing an IoT monitoring solution for safety and the environment, while AQUALYZE focuses on smart aquaculture water monitoring. The EduAir team is developing a solution for healthy learning-space air monitoring, and hirup.id is creating connected safety solutions for better living.

    Furthermore, LadangKu Smart Farming presents a precision farming solution for a better future. The NADIMAX team focuses on smart health performance monitoring, while the Pantau Banjir Group is developing a system for early flood detection and faster response. VeloCity Bandung is exploring the theme of smart mobility for efficient activities, and VitaCheck is developing a digital health check solution for the future.

    This diversity of themes demonstrates that the Capstone Project provides students with the opportunity to apply their technological competencies to a wide range of real-world issues, ranging from agriculture, health, the environment, education, safety, disaster mitigation, to urban mobility. Additionally, the Capstone Project’s grading system is structured in a measurable way, with a total weight of 100 percent. The assessed aspects include Problem, SDGs & User Needs (8 percent), User Validation & Evidence (8 percent), Innovation & Differentiation (10 percent), and Solution–Problem Fit (8 percent). The assessment also covers Technical Architecture (10 percent) and Prototype Functionality & Demo (12 percent).

    In addition to technical skills and innovation, students are evaluated on UI/UX & Accessibility (7 percent), Security, Reliability & Ethics (7 percent), Business Model & Sustainability (8 percent), and Market Potential & Scalability (7 percent). The ability to convey ideas through Pitch Delivery & Storytelling accounts for 7 percent, while Q&A, Team Capability & Execution account for 8 percent. This set of criteria demonstrates that students are not only required to create a functional product but must also be able to understand user needs, conduct validation, demonstrate the novelty of their solution, consider security and ethics, design a sustainable business model, assess market potential, and defend their ideas before the judges.

    Based on the evaluation results, LadangKu Smart Farming secured first place with a score of 86.40, followed by VeloCity Bandung in second place with a score of 85.00, and NADIMAX in third place with a score of 84.80. These three teams demonstrated the best performance based on all the evaluation criteria established for the Capstone Project.

    According to Dr. Agus, these evaluation results do not merely reflect students’ ability to produce a product but also serve as part of a process to measure the development of students’ competencies more comprehensively. The learning process is designed so that students experience a progression from not knowing to knowing, from knowing to understanding, and ultimately to becoming skilled. “It is this learning journey that is measured. From not knowing to knowing, from knowing to understanding, and from understanding to becoming skilled,” explained Dr. Agus.\

    This evaluation model also positions collaboration skills as a crucial component of learning outcomes. Students are trained to develop communication, coordination, leadership, managerial skills, administrative skills, and social interaction within a team. These competencies are considered essential because the professional world demands the ability to work collaboratively and not rely solely on individual abilities. Furthermore, the Capstone Project is expected to become part of students’ portfolios. Each project developed is not viewed merely as a course assignment but can serve as a record of competencies demonstrating students’ ability to identify problems, design solutions, build products, work in teams, and present ideas professionally.

    Dr. Agus also emphasized that learning objectives are not merely about measuring students’ ability to answer written questions. Student development must be viewed more holistically through cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Therefore, the Capstone Project serves as an alternative assessment method that provides students with a broader platform to demonstrate their potential and competencies. Moving forward, Dr. Agus hopes this learning model can continue to be developed by involving more industry practitioners, relevant agencies, and parties with the potential to support student project development. It is hoped that this involvement will not stop at the evaluation process but will open opportunities for the best projects to receive mentoring, incubation, and even funding, thereby potentially growing into actual startups.

    The Final UAS Capstone Project held in Classroom 4507 at UNIKOM’s Campus I serves as a testament that the learning process can be transformed into a more contextual, competitive, and problem-solving-oriented experience. Through presentations, judging, and the announcement of winners, students gain an experience that closely mirrors professional processes in presenting and defending an innovation.

    Through the Capstone Project, the final exam is no longer merely the final stage for measuring the ability to answer questions, but rather a platform for demonstrating students’ competencies, creativity, collaboration, and readiness to face the real world. From the nine teams with diverse ideas and solutions, it is hoped that innovations will emerge that do not stop in the classroom but can continue to be developed into solutions that benefit society and the industrial world.
