  • Land Use Change Modeling (With Special Reference To Bandung Region)

    Abstract

    CLUE-S is a tool that can predict future land use changes. CLUE-S had been successfully applied to simulate land use change in Bandung region. The dependent variable was land use which classified into seven classes (water, forest, others, built area, plantation, dry land, and rice field). The independent variables were social economical aspect, biophysical aspect, accessibility and climate. The result of the modeling showed that scenario 2 was more optimal than scenarios 1. In the end of simulation, scenario 2 showed that forest area was still 11 percent, and the area of rice field was 5 percent of the area. © 2009 IEEE.

    Abstract

    The rapid and fast development of technology affects many aspects of life, especially in the field of education. The application of technology in education is needed to support a more effective and efficient learning process without any space and time constraints. An example is the implementation of the Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) which is often known as an intelligent learning system. An ITS in the field of military education is needed to produce professional military graduates/HR. Therefore, researchers will examine trends in research development and updates on ITS technology in the military field. Efforts to achieve research objectives are carried out using the Systematic Literature Review method with bibliometric analysis or VOSviewer. The purpose of this study is to become a reference for determining research topics on ITS in the field of education, especially the military. © 2023 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

    Abstract

    Language learning in Indonesia’s educational environment is accelerating change due to the introduction of novel technologies and teaching methods. This paper analyzed the essential functions of digital tools, the internet, and contemporary educational approaches to enhancing Indonesian language learning results. When considering the challenges of low penetration in remote areas and fluctuating technological maturity, opportunities exist to explore the potential of technology to bridge the language acquisition gap. Drawing on a review of several projects (i.e., mobile applications, e-learning platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven language support), the current study outlines their success in fostering multilingualism, enhancing engagement rates, and developing mother tongue and second language skills. The outcome suggests that education through language for Indonesian learners will be successful if there is a balance between traditional teaching advantages, such as face-to-face teaching, and modern technology’s power and freedom. Policies, pedagogical, and institutional ideas are proposed to build a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic model for a language education framework based on the sake of its citizenry. © 2024 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

  • Novel Motion Planning Strategy with Fuzzy Logic for Improving Safety in Autonomous Vehicles in Response to Risky Road User Behaviors

    Abstract

    This study aims to propose a new motion planning strategy for autonomous vehicles (AV) using fuzzy logic to improve safety. The strategy mitigates risky behaviors of other road users, such as zigzagging vehicles, sudden braking, pedestrians emerging from blind spots, and responding to sudden lane changes. The proposed method combines a novel fuzzy inference system and a configuration space map with adaptive dynamic object bounding boxes. These bounding boxes adjust in size according to the risk level of the dynamic object’s movement. The simulation test was conducted using four scenarios involving risky behavior from other road users. The proposed method was compared with conventional methods, with safety costs used to measure performance. The results showed that the proposed algorithm achieved better safety costs across all four scenarios; this improvement is due to the integration of the fuzzy system with the adaptive configuration space map, which accounts for uncertainties. These findings suggest that the proposed method improves AV motion planning safety in dynamic and unpredictable environments. This research contributes to developing safer, more reliable autonomous driving systems. © 2024 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

  • Design Thinking to Enhance E-Commerce Accessibility for Blind Users in Indonesia

    Abstract

    Indonesia’s expanding e-commerce sector still marginalizes blind users. This study aimed to determine whether a usercentred design process could convert inaccessible shopping flows into accessible ones. We applied Design Thinking to a large Indonesian e-commerce website, audited barriers with screen reader walkthroughs, mapped issues to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and ARIA, and iteratively prototyped semantics, headings, roles, keyboard flows, and feedback. Blind participants from a rehabilitation center completed think-aloud evaluations that compared the original and redesigned flows. Usability tests showed complete task completion across search, product, and checkout, with faster completion and fewer errors, because interface semantics matched assistive technologies and interaction steps were simplified and consistently announced. The redesign now enables truly independent transactions and reduces frustration. These findings indicate that locally adapted, standards-guided, and user-validated design can replace exclusion with inclusion in digital commerce and can be replicated by teams in resource-constrained settings to accelerate equitable access. © 2026 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

  • A Systematic Review of The IoT in Smart University: Model and Contribution

    Abstract

    The objectives of the review were to identify different implementation aspects of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Smart Universities (SU) from diverse studies, amplify the theories behind the IoT utilization and model in SU; as well as offer recommendations for future research in this area. This study employed a systematic literature review (SLR) technique, conducting comprehensive searches of the most relevant articles to the research question published from 2018 to 2022. Following a review of peer-reviewed journals, a total of 69 refereed articles were chosen and analyzed. The findings of this study suggest that the technology model needs to be aligned and integrated with organizational processes. IoT utilization should meet the adoption readiness of a university. The results also revealed that the creation of SU can be divided into three categories: behavior, learning, educational technology, and physical facilities. However, the literature related to IoT utilization and model is still incoherent and lacking in theoretical frameworks that reflect on specific circumstances such as SU. SU research is still in its early stages, with more work to be done in terms of identifying technology model adoption. The review also contributed to serving as inspiration and a point of reference for institutions as they work with the smart university initiative to create a teaching and learning environment that is more effective and efficient.

  • Experimental Study of Dam Break Flow Generated by the Flap Gate in Horizontal Channel

    Abstract

    The risk of dam break failure become one of the most important issues to decide the feasibility of  reservoir  and  dam  development  in  Indonesia.  This  paper  presents  an  experimental  work  result  of  a  dam break  flow  through  a  single  oblique  obstruction  in  a  straight  rectangular  channel.  The  dam  break  flow  was generated by a sudden swing of a flap gate set on the contraction join of a horizontal reservoir and a horizontal channel. The  initial condition of the  dam break flow is set  up based on the  water height in this reservoir. Aspatial temporal measurement of depth and velocity of the generated dam-break flow was conducted around the  obstruction.  The  flow  depth  was  measured  using  an  ultrasonic-based  sensor  supported  by  a  GPRS communication  system,  and  the  flow  velocity  was  measured  using  a  high-speed  type  current  meter.  Less correlation between the measured depth and velocity flow in the first of three seconds after the flow generation, where the flow has a high intensity of turbulent, was observed due to the limitation of data acquisition capacity. Compared to Noel’s experimental works where the dam-break mechanism is simulated using an uplift gate, the flow depth and velocity profiles of the current experimental work have a good agreement in its pattern and in less  agreement  in  its  magnitude.  Meanwhile,  compared  to  Noel’s  numerical  model  result,  it  has  fewer agreement  results.  These  differences  might  be  occurred  due  to  the  influences  of  differences  dam  break mechanism and data acquisition system

    Abstract:

    The purpose of this study examines this is to find out how much the influence of virtual money on the rupiah currency. This research was conducted with a descriptive analysis method. The author takes this topic because he feels that virtual currencies can be a way out of the economic crisis that is affecting us now. Based on this study, the authors assume that by using virtual money we can increase the productivity of companies in Indonesia. This is because when we get virtual money we can exchange it for dollars so that when we exchange it for rupiah, besides helping to reduce the dollar exchange rate to the rupiah, it can also be used as capital to increase product performance. The results of this research show that virtual currencies are one way out of the current economic crisis that our country is suffering from. So this virtual money is expected to help improve the national economy, employment, community income, and social welfare.

    Abstract:

    The implementation of social welfare development programs in developing countries is generally focused on the empowerment program of the poor, which is more nuanced in a participatory approach involving the community, business and government. empowerment is considered appropriate to be one of the policy choices in the development of social welfare today. The development of social welfare based on the principle of empowerment is intended that in the handling of the poor it must be done through increasing the capacity of human resources to increase independence (Law Number 13 of 2011). Regional development has an impact on national development. Poverty reduction policies realized through community empowerment programs have become the main agenda and priori development in Baleendah Subdistrict, especially Rancamanyar Village. One of the poverty alleviation programs through community empowerment carried out in Rancamanyar Village is the Housing Assistance Program for uninhabitable houses. Various local government efforts to reduce the number of uninhabitable houses are still considered uneven. With the limited management and processing of survey data in the regions, it is one of the factors that do not help the existing policies. With the construction of a geographic information system for uninhabitable homes, one of the efforts that must be taken by the local government in order to support and assist in making decisions for uninhabitable houses is to conduct geographical analysis and mapping of uninhabitable houses in Rancamanyar Village, so that help is not wrong target. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

    Abstract:

    The research aims to forecast the Poverty Line, to help a government obtain accurate and fast information. The method used in this research is Double Exponential Smoothing Holt’s Method. This method is a part of the data based on time series analysis. The research applies the forecasting theory to produce a poverty line forecast for the coming year. Next, this research is analyzing data patterns and determine the best parameter values. Double Exponential Smoothing Holt’s method uses the parameters Alpha (α) and Gamma (γ). To determine the best parameter value is to use the trial and error method. The best parameter value produces the smallest value of MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Error). The data pattern shows the trend, meaning that the Double Exponential Smoothing Holt’s method is appropriate to be used in this research. The parameter values generated from the trial and error methods are Alpha (α) of 0.7 and Gamma (γ) of 0.1, which produced the smallest measure of accuracy, in this research using MAPE. By observing the results of the forecasting that has been done, this forecasting model has a very good performance. Poverty Line value will keep increasing, in accordance with increasing consumption patterns and rising prices of basic necessities. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
