Min-Cost Flow Network to Detect Text Line on Certificate

    Authors: Indra Rianto, Ednawati Rainarli

    Abstract

This study aims to use the Min-Cost Flow network to obtain text lines in the character detection that process on the certificate. Determining the text line is part of the text detection process before the word recognition process. Detection of the text that appears on the certificate is part of the process for automatically extracting information. The diversity of colour, font types and sizes, and the complexity of the certificate background make the scanner text detection more complex than other optical character detections. This study used the Tesseract tool to get character candidates and added merging characters into a text line using the Min-Cost Flow method. To improve the quality of the image, we used smoothing techniques with integral images. After the thresholding and segmentation process, the result is the input to Tesseract. The Tesseract detects the candidates of character. The test varies the confidence score, the threshold value for the vertical length of the two components, horizontal width, and font size difference. The best results are the confident score of at least 50, the horizontal width of less than 2, the vertical length of less than 0.2, and a difference in size between letters less than 2 with an F-Score of 62%. Even though the F-score is less than 70%, we found that the Min-Cost Flow method can select objects other than text detected by the Tesseract result, such as signatures and logos. Using the Min-Cost Flow, we can combine character candidates into one text line for later processing on text recognition. © 2021 Taylor’s University. All rights reserved.

    Authors: Andi Harapan Siregar

    Abstract

Traditional house in Panjalin Village is one of the Sundanese vernacular houses, houses that adopt the shape of Sundanese traditional houses. Many Sundanese traditional houses are found in Pangandaran and Tasikmalaya. Field observation conducted after the earthquake hit in 2007 and 2009 showed that those houses are more resistant than concrete-made houses. Sundanese traditional house in Panjalin Village is earthquake-related strength, Indonesian National Standard (SNI) earthquake zoning, and soil types. The studied area is categorized in Zone III in SNI earthquake zoning and has a hard-soil. This study method used qualitative and quantitative to get the data and conduct the analysis. Qualitative was conducted by discussing and taking photos of the traditional houses, and quantitative was conducted with measurement and modeling using the software. The modeling (with software) was conducted to beam and column of traditional houses to know its strength and moment, as the inputs to the whole force and shear force. The SAP 2000 ver. 14 (software) is used to conduct simulation tests to know traditional houses in Panjalin Village strength related to its categorized area and soil type. The purpose of this paper will be an input for local people who stay in an earthquake-prone area, to know (as a lesson learn) about the strength of their traditional house related to the earthquake. The conclusion is the traditional houses that built without an engineer and had adapted several times to nature behavior – in this case, is an earthquake – are tested by a computer program that is scientifically and rationally earthquake-proof. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University

  • Nata De Coco Material Monitoring System Using Internet of Things

Nata De Coco Material Monitoring System Using Internet of Things

Authors: Bobi Kurniawan, Haq A. H, Alvian Sopian

    Abstract

The purpose of this research is to create a monitoring system for the solution-mixing process used to manufacture Nata de Coco using the Internet of Things. Nata de Coco’s manufacturing process usually mixes coconut water solution with vinegar and seed solution. The mixing process is usually used with manual measurement. In the mixing process, the makers usually only measure the amount of the solution mixture regardless of the final result and the effect of temperature and acidity levels for the ingredients. This can lead to the failure of the mixing process for the Nata de Coco solution. Therefore, in order for the mixing process to be controlled and to improve the quality and success rate of the mixture, it takes a system that can monitor the mixing process and the result of mixing the manufacture of Nata de Coco. The method used in the creation of this monitoring system refers to the prototype method with the stages of communication, quick planning, model design, prototype building, and system usage. The result of this study is a system that can perform the process of mixing Nata de Coco material solution that can be monitored in realtime in order to produce an excellent product with a good acidity level that is with a value of 3.5 to 7.5. With a good acidity value, it can produce good quality Nata De Coco. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

  • Corn Sheller Machine Technology to Improve Farmers’ Productivity

Corn Sheller Machine Technology to Improve Farmers’ Productivity

Authors: Senny Luckyardi, Raiswati Untsa Mega, Kevin R, Naufal A. N, Hanifah A. P

    Abstract

Corn is an essential requirement for human life and is the second food-crop commodity after rice. Therefore, this research aims to design a corn seed separator machine using a cheap and lightweight engine with little driving force. This study used simple calculations for getting the optimal design of the corn sheller machine. The separator machine is by cutting the material, working on machinery, welding the frame, installing and assembling the machine after it is repaired and tuned. The next step is testing the performance of the device by checking the capacity of the shelling. If there is damage, it will be repaired again, but if not, then the machine is ready to use. The results of quality testing and production capacity show that the difference in shelled corn diameter affects the shelled production capacity, where the more significant the shelled corn diameter, the higher the production capacity. The design of this corn machine sheller is estimated to increase the amount of processed corn seed production by 20% of the product using a mechanical device on the market, with an electrical power of 0.8952 kW (estimated 1 hp 0.746 kW). Functional design and how the machine works, namely using oil-fuelled energy, are two sorting levels: coarse and fine. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.
