    Abstract

    This research is the development of SIKEMAS (Mosque Financial Flow Information System), which is now referred to as the Qurban Service Information System (SIQUR), conducted at DKM Khairul Amal, Bandung City. There are problems in processing qurban data, at the Khairul Amal mosque DKM, which currently still uses conventional manual methods, which cause many problems starting from the qurban preparation stage, registration of qurban (shohibul qurban) and sacrificial animals, to the distribution of qurban meat. Another problem is the unsynchronized data between the availability of qurban meat and the number of recipients. Because it creates an application or system that has already been developed, this research was carried out utilizing the research and development technique. At the same time, the design of information systems uses object-oriented design tools using the Unified Modelling Language (UML). At the same time, the application is built with Java Netbeans 7.0 programming with MySql database. The result of measuring the respondents’ satisfaction index with SIQUR is 98%, which means that users are satisfied with the facilities in SIQUR. © 2024 Taylor’s University. All rights reserved.

    Design and Implementation of Android-Based Diet and Jogging Recommendation Application to Overcome Obesity

    Abstract

    Obesity has become a significant global health issue, affecting populations in both developed and developing countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a substantial rise in obesity rates since 1990, with 43% of individuals classified as overweight in 2022. This study aimed to design and implement an Android-based diet and jogging recommendation application targeting adults. Following the Waterfall model, the research adhered to a structured, sequential process that included requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance phases. The application calculates Body Mass Index (BMI) based on user input, such as weight, height, age, and gender, categorizing individuals into seven classifications: Underweight, Normal weight, Pre-obesity, Obesity class I, II, and III. Personalized diet and exercise recommendations are then provided to help users achieve and sustain a healthy weight. The app integrates the Google Maps API to track jogging routes and the Low Carb Recipes API to offer calorie-based meal suggestions. Additionally, the Jogging Tracking feature allows users to monitor their jogging history. The results demonstrate that the application effectively delivers customized dietary and physical activity recommendations, aiding users in managing their caloric intake and maintaining consistent exercise routines. The system proves to be both functional and practical, offering a valuable tool in the fight against obesity, particularly in Indonesia. This research contributes to addressing the global obesity crisis by providing an accessible, technology-driven solution. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    Ferrocement is a thin-walled concrete that is less commonly used than reinforced concrete. On the other hand, zinc plate is a type of metal frequently utilized as roofing material and for rain gutters. This study aimed to evaluate the tensile strength of zinc and the flexural strength of ferrocement to ensure their safe load-bearing capacity for multi-storey building floors. The study was conducted experimentally by testing the strength of formwork plates made from ferrocement, with a base plate comprising a layer of zinc. The ferrocement used in the experiment contained two layers of wire mesh and mortar with a cement-to-sand ratio of 1:3. The experimental results yielded a formwork flexural strength value of 0.403 kNm, mortar compressive strength of 22.3 MPa and zinc yield stress of 194.6 MPa. Based on construction trial activities in multi-storey houses, zinc-coated ferrocement plates are deemed safe for application as permanent formwork for floor slabs. © 2025 Taylor’s University.     Abstract

    This study outlined the development process of augmented reality (AR) media for teaching geometry, grounded in prior mathematical knowledge. We used the design thinking method, consisting of empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing. The study showed that AR media developed for geometry based on prior mathematical knowledge was highly valid for being used by media and content expert validators. This is because AR media is designed according to students’ prior mathematical knowledge, categorized into high, medium, and low levels, making geometry learning more effective. The impact extends to various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), introducing a new, more engaging, and enjoyable way of delivering educational content. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    This research explored the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and the Internet of Things (IoT) across various domains, including cybersecurity, healthcare, education, and monitoring systems. The study aimed to identify emerging trends, evaluate current approaches, and discuss their implications. Key focus areas include IoT-enabled plant nutrition monitoring, ML-driven sales prediction, and AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, such as GPT-2 for zero-day threat detection. The findings highlighted innovative applications, such as bibliometric analyses of intelligent tutoring systems for educational modernization, IoT applications in agriculture, and AI-driven initiatives for digital financial inclusion. Critical challenges, particularly scalability and data protection, were also identified. This discussion emphasized the transformative potential of these technologies in enhancing decision-making, optimizing processes, and addressing societal challenges like cybersecurity and digital inclusion. In conclusion, IoT, ML, and AI play a pivotal role in driving innovation across industries. Future research should prioritize multidisciplinary approaches to tackle existing challenges and maximize the potential of these technologies. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    This research designed and developed a reflective e-module loaded with speaking strategies for legal argumentation material. The research carried out design-based research (DBR), including needs analysis, design planning, design development, and reflection. In the development stage, the e-module was designed by twelve expert validators to evaluate product keys. The development was carried out in the field of observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. The research results showed the preparation of a reflective model e-module with a narrative strategy in legal argumentation material, which is valid and in the very good category. Excellent results were obtained because e-modules have the advantage of being structured based on effective model syntax and containing speaking strategies. Also, several contents can be accessed to motivate student knowledge, including interactive media in the form of video shows from YouTube to stimulate students’ understanding of how to speak directly in court, and assignment collection which is carried out by uploading directly to the e-module application (not manually). This e-module is also unique in that it encourages students to think analytically and critically. This research implied that e-modules can be used as an alternative since it can make it easier for prospective lawyers to understand legal argumentation material. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    This study developed an AppSheet-based application design that could be used to analyse the preaching of character values in the preaching narrative. The research method used was design-based research. The results of this study were in the form of an AppSheet product that had been designed based on the category of character values. This AppSheet was effective because the aspects appeared to preach and teach character values in Islam. The preaching of scholars emphasized noble character values and Islamic teachings. However, the challenge in analysing preaching lies in the difficulty of filtering and identifying the character values conveyed in the preaching narratives, especially in the context of digitalization. The contribution of the AppSheet development lies in optimizing the use of the application to analyse digital-based preaching narratives, thus it could be applied for more effective preaching with a broader impact. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    This study aimed to develop a Digital Assessment Prototype to analyse and map the economic resilience of families in Lampegan Village, West Java. The method used was design-based research (DBR), with the stages of research carried out including analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The results of the developed application showed very good validity in terms of instrument accuracy, media, and ease of use of the web. In addition, a limited trial was conducted on 46 families in Lampegan Village. The results of the study indicated that the developed digital assessment could be used effectively and provided clear information about the condition and resilience of the family economy in Lampegan Village, West Java. The digital assessment application was able to group the economic resilience of the community into vulnerable families, at-risk families, and independent families based on access to resources, financial management, and adaptability to economic changes. This web application had implications for policymakers and other stakeholders in efforts to improve family resilience in various regions. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Abstract

    This study investigated students’ difficulties in numeracy, with a particular focus on linear functions and tools dimension. This is case study research gathering relevant qualitative information from 34 ninth-grade students who had already learned about linear function concepts. Based on the analysis of students’ errors in answering the numeracy questions in the dimensions of tools section which can be identified in the linear function topic, students experience difficulties in interpreting mathematical phenomena with various mathematical representations; and students experience difficulty in making translations between mathematical representations. This is because students experience difficulties in managing cognitive demands, shallow understanding of mathematical principles, complexity of concepts, inappropriate learning practices, limited practice opportunities, and lack of familiarity with mathematical tools. The impact of this study is as an initial step in designing teaching materials on linear function material that discusses and anticipates students’ learning difficulties in solving numerical problems based on empirical findings. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.

    Advanced Path Planning for Mitigating Front and Rear-End Collisions in Autonomous Vehicles Using Uncertainty-Aware Mapping and Planning

    Abstract

    Autonomous vehicles (AVs) face safety risks when human drivers behave dangerously around AVs. This study proposes a path-planning strategy to reduce the risk of frontal and rear-end collisions. This method integrates uncertainty-aware mapping and planning techniques. The mapping uses uncertainty-aware configuration time space (CTS). In CTS, the boundary size of dynamic objects adapts to the uncertainty of their motion. This representation is combined with the RRT-PSO path planning algorithm and Multi Rule Templates. We name this algorithm uncertainty-aware path planner (UAPP). The system is tested in four simulation scenarios. The scenarios include drivers behaving dangerously around AVs. The results show that UAPP reduces the risk of frontal and rear-end collisions. A comparative analysis is also performed. The performance of UAPP is compared with the Fast RRT and closed loop RRT (CL-RRT) algorithms. Statistical analysis shows that UAPP achieves lower p-values in most cases. This study demonstrates the potential of uncertainty-aware path-planning strategies for autonomous vehicles.
